My 2013 reverse beeps are really annoying. The dealer reduced the 12 prius I had to one beep. Is there a way I can do this myself to this car? I have a android phone and a personal computer if that helps. Found post about mac and I phones but that doesn't apply for me. recycled55
You could use Torque software and a OBDII to bluetooth adapter. Torque — OBD2 Performance and Diagnostics for your Vehicle Bluetooth Adapters - Torque OBD2 Wiki
IIRC Dr Prius will do it too? FWIW, I'd like more warning, like a little voice repeatedly saying "you're in reverse stupid". I need it... Maybe flaky memory, but I don't think I ever got mixed up, with a traditional automatic shifter.
Yes, Carista is available for android. I used it for my iPhone to adjust my reverse beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep
I recently traded my 2010 Prius for a Chevy Bolt, but my wife just bought a 2020 Prime Limited. We are sitting here wondering about how to disable that reverse beep (or get it down to a single beep). The real problem is that she has all the tech toys on this car, including the warning that you’re about to run into something behind you, as well as the reverse cross traffic alarm. The audible warnings generated by those two features get absolutely lost in the backup beep, of course. Prior to this Prius Prime my wife drove a loaded up 2011 Camry. It did NOT beep at her when she went into reverse, and in 10 years of driving that car she never “mistakenly” took off in reverse. Does Toyota just assume that Prius drivers are more airheaded than the general population or something?
As far as I know, it's the return-to-centre shifter that precipitated this beeping-in-reverse alert. With a traditional shifter you go through a linear series of steps, from Park through Reverse and Neutral, to get to Drive. You tend to keep a hand on it, and/or glance down and can readily see that you're in reverse. The Prius shifter is "improved", does not give you that visual/tactile feedback. I kinda like the beep, except it mainly says to me "something is beeping". And I'm one of those airheads: have lost track that I'm in reverse a few times, so far haven't run over any curbs or people... I'd much prefer a little voice saying "yur in reverse, yur in reverse, yur...". Or a traditional shifter.
The next time you have service, just ask the Toyota guys to change the backup alarm to a single beep. They hate hearing it as much as we do and they didn't charge me a cent for the service.
Hmm, I assumed that those beeps could be heard externally. Since the Prius is silent I like the idea of it beeping externally so pedestrians etc know I’m backing since it’s harder to see them going backwards. A couple months ago I had a pedestrian walk from my blind spot to directly behind the car then yell at me like it was all my fault. Of course they were waking diagonally across the parking lot towards their car instead of using the cross walk area 10 feet away.
Nope, it's supposed to remind you, that you're in reverse. Using myself as a guinea pig, I'd say it's not that effective. Still, I can live with it for the few seconds it's on, I'm tough.
So if I buy a scan gauge at habor freight it will allow me to turn off the beeping or down to a single beep?
I used Dr. Prius app and managed to turn off reverse beep and seat belt alarm. Device was OBDLink LX/MX the Bluetooth version.
I can't say they won't be able to. All claim to be able to reset OBDII parameters. The ones under $1000 do not seem all that programmable. If you only have 4 buttons, programming ought to be hell. An old cell phone, cheap software and a bluetooth to OBDII will be cheaper. Or if you want something known to work with a Prius for a decade: www.amazon.com/ScanGauge-Automotive-Computer-Customizable-Real-Time/dp/B000AAMY86 (programming is still ugly, but there are tons of threads on how to)
If you want, I can make a short video with this changes working... The adapter cost me around 25-30 USD.
Yeah apparently; screen grab: Personally I'm not interested in disabling any of the above. In particular the seat belt warning. But it's there.
Is that an app or scan gauge? I definitely want to get rid of the reverse beep and possibly passenger side seat belt as I often put boxes there and they are to heavy so it beeps
Yes, Dr. Prius app. Haven't tried that myself; but I'd suspect it'll work, haven't heard anything to the contrary.
