2009 Toyota Prius wont start

    just purchased 2009 Toyota Prius for a quarantine project.
    it was parked for a while. original issue was she was driving and lost power on the highway. while it was sitting the Cat was stolen.
    charged and tested the 12 volt battery its good.
    checked the Traction battery 204. total volts 7 to 7.5 volts per module.
    checked Inverter coolant pump operation verified by turbulent water in the bottle.
    checked all fuses.
    replaced key fob battery.
    reseated all relays.
    MFD does not turn on.
    two presses of start button gives me the first picture i hear relay chatter throughout the car.
    press the brake and the power button and it all shuts down.

    Did you check the 12v at the jump points under the hood on the drivers side?

    Make sure the battery connections are tight, including the ground strap at the body which can rust.

    You have a bad hybrid battery.

    Initial thought is the car may not be detecting the brake pedal being pushed.

    Thinking about it again, with your foot off the brake, the first push of the power button should cause the clock, radio and the MFD to power up and the power button led should be green. The second push should make the dash come alive and the led goes orange. You're also showing more warning light than would be normal for the second push (ignition-on position) with no foot on brake.

    If some modules are 7 volts, the HV battery definitely has coded out, which is helping to make ALL the dash warning lights come on.

    Perhaps something else is going on, because if the dash is lit, the MFD should be also. The question is whether its a MFD failure or power supply issue.

    Somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to remember another thread on here with similar symptoms that ended up being a failure of the power source ecu.

    Maybe take a read through this thread and see if your symptoms are similar? There's a troubleshooting guide attachment in one of my posts in that thread that may help.

    Many here use a "mini-vci" cable and a copy of techstream, you can also use an OBD2 blue tooth adapter and Dr Prius, or Hybrid Assistant.

    Most sellers will include a CD-ROM or a web link, did the listing mention receiving only the mini-vci or was software also implied?

    This blog is always a great resource, be sure to look at the various tags, like toyota-techstream and mini-vci

    It came with a cd but the cd was damaged during shipping. im awaiting the to send a new cd. but now im sitting here with a laptop and cable. i was wondering if there was a place to download so i dont have to wait the 2 weeks before delivery

    so here is my dilemma i took apart my traction battery to find some cell that were leaking i purchased some from ebay and they are physically different. i searched ans searched and to no avail i cannot find cells that match mine. the bootom one is the ones i have and the top one are the ones i bought from ebay and the only styles i see........ please help.......

    i bench charged the battery by rewiring it to be big 12 volt so my traditional battery charger can charge it on a lighter note i did get it to start... the ICE ran.

    so upon further research i found out that when the lady had the battery refurbished they put gen 1 battery modules into this 2009 prius. question is do i replace the 6 gen 1 modules or do i try and find a full gen 2 battery set.

    Yes, give up on the Gen 1 battery modules.
