Hi Jack! I just went through the 5 months of your work! Looking promising with every page!
Imagine the applications and convenience of your pack is giving me smiles!
In theory you could identify which pack is down in the future with your app, and owners can replace that individual cell easily at home.
Check pack voltage, match the cell voltage to that of the pack and do a plug and play replacement.

In reality that is what most reconditioned battery means, they took out the rotten egg from the cluster of cells and replace it with a new/working cell. But due to those Panasonic blades it is limiting the owners access to this maintenance from home.
The way your pack is put together seems easy to service in that aspect.
Looking forward to new updates! Prius C would love one too! I bet with the same volume of a factory pack you could boost our capacity at least double.

That could bring the Lithium potential to the max, but that will also require additional charging hardware which against my cost saving concept, maybe it could be an optional package.

    This is great!

I've been wondering since before I bought my Gen2 why nobody has done a plug and play lithium pack yet, hopefully my 415,000km battery lasts long enough to replace it with one of these!

@jacktheripper is it possible to also swap the 12v side to lithium? Do you know what the factory DC-DC charger outputs? I'm assuming it's just a constant 14.x volt power supply so most off the shelf 12v lithium packs with built in BMS will work

Probably about the same, or more than the $1600 batteries back....

I could see this being. $2,000+.

Old technology NiMH is $1,600 for aftermarket pack.

If this ends up coming to market I have a feeling I'll end up getting an extended capacity version.

Spiral Development does have it's advantages, esp if the product is IT intensive. However, it also has its cons - one being that the consumer often does the QA. The Toyota took a quasi Robust Design approach with the Gen 1 & 2 Priuss to ensure that the consumer would get a reliable product at the start. That distinguished it from the rest of the market, which why the Prius was so successful at it's inception.

Hi Eric, is this $1600 aftermarket pack from Toyota or from that unknown China source?

You can bet they are a china product.
But, you can send me a pack and I will install it and test it for you in a REAL life usage situation.
    I drive about 700 miles a week. :)
