07 Prius 'vibrates/shakes" when engine is running at low RPMs.

You most likely have a misfire at low rpm. Several possible causes. Was the check engine light flashing?
Did the dealer read any codes present?

DIY=<$100 and an afternoon.
Cabin air filter $15 and 3 minutes.
Engine air filter $15 and 5 minutes
Drive belt $10 and 1 hour for a rookie..
Tire rotation...eh..whatever..
PCV....$10 and an hour for a rookie...don't use an open end wrench or you may crack the valve cover
Cleaning throttle body and MAF sensor...$10 for a can of MAF cleaner and an hour for a rookie
Spark plugs..$30 for new plugs, and an hour for a rookie..

 

Th oem 12 volt battery has a black case. I assume you mean the 12 volt battery.

Needs plugs. When I did mine I also replaced the coil on plug (cop) igniters too. I bought one every few months in anticipation of replacing them.
They are a high maintenance item. use oem only.If your using the car for delivery dont go cheap on the maintenance.


It will also need a new valve cover gasket. When you go to replace the plugs see if they have a burnt edge on the porcelain thats oil seeping thru the valve cover gasket getting into the spark plug well. Really common issue on 4 bangers. When they really start to leak they foul the cop. Then when valve cover is off you can easily take the pcv valve off with a deep socket. Do not use a open end wrench.

Its a 13 year old high tech little car its a must to have techstream software to maintain it and keep an eye on the hybrid battery. Bad hybrid battery is the number one reason people sell a G2.
That and its a little oil eating monster.

And lastly many G2 prius suffer oil eating issues especially if oil changed at the dealer through its life. Check the oil first thing in the morning before starting the car every few days to get a sense on how much oil its eating. keep it at the full line always. You run the oil real low on that little motor its doomsday fro your wallet.

In fact the check engine light might be on because the oil is very low now. Also replace the water pump belt. Its way overdue. You lose that $10 belt the motor will over heat you will never know till its too late.

Intermittent misfires: suspect plugs first and COPS (coil on plugs) second. USE NAME BRAND/OEM for both of these if possible and skip the cheap aftermarket coils as quality control is very sketch.

That makes I easy..there is only ONE thing that gives a flashing check engine light...severe misfire

Misfires are most commonly caused by worn spark plugs, bad coils, bad fuel injectors or vacuum leaks.

 

I had a similar situation a few weeks ago @ 183K miles. Spark plugs were done, I also swapped out the coils too. Problem solved.

The OEM toyota cops are expensive but my G2 bought new has been very good to me so It deserves whatever I can throw at it. If it was a pain in the tookus I would have got rid of it a long time ago but nothing has really failed on the car its been all basic maintenance and hyper vigilance on the oil quality, level, and R&R interval has resulted in a G2 that does not eat oil between 5K oil changes now at 160,000 miles.

Wife loves it and I love it because I no longer care what she runs into anymore body wise. I really should hang 2 big tug boat fender bumpers over the front of the car...lol....

One night a year ago I see 2 police officers walking up my driveway on my surveillance camera. Its 8 at night. Oh crap...

I go out and they ask my name and do I own a prius. I say yes where is it i say wife is out shopping in it. Long silence....they look at each other then me and there not saying anything then finally I kinda freaked out and yelled what is it is she ok????

They say someone called the plate in and said the driver was drunk and ran over some trees in a planter in a Publix parking lot. I said shes not drunk just cant drive in the dark. I get her on the phone on speaker she starts screaming about someone cut her off in the parking lot and forced her up on a big planter and she ran over something....

Both cops look at each other turn and walk away shaking there head.

Fender smashed in and front of bumper all scraped to hell. I never fixed it. Runs ok. Waiting for her to take the other side out.
And no more driving in the dark for her.

Getting old is a blast!!!
