    VW moving down-market with a rear-engine, rear-drive car?

    Pinch me.

    If the economy recovers enough that I actually need to replace a car, this will be high on my list. As it is, it's looking like our 2007 Accent might make it another 10 years, and the 2018 Prius c at least another 6.

    No. Just a replacement for the current eUp!

    Note that VW's ID line is mimicking their gasoline lineup.

    ID.1 = Up!
    ID.2 = Polo
    ID.3 = Golf
    ID.4 = Tiguan
    Vizzion Concept = Passat or Arteon sized
    Space Vizzion Concept = Passat Estate/Wagon/Variant
    Roomzz Concept = Touareg/Atlas sized

    Makes sense. They want to make EVs for each level of performance in their gas lineup.

    They are out, already. All current Smart Cars sold new are BEV's.

    Kraft durch freude!

    Watching the crash tests, it's hard to call them "smart"

    But ..... it's likely still safer than a 2 wheeler

    Smart is completely exiting the US Market, electric or otherwise

    VW Actually has zero plans on selling EVs in the US.

    it’s odd how they drone on about them while stating there is no market to sell them in the US
    (One article talks about them selling in the US market while the next says the ID will not be sold in the US)

    The ID.4 will be sold in the US, no? It's supposed to be launch near the end of the year (pre-COVID). Maybe you're thinking ID.3; that won't be sold in the US since Americans don't typically buy compact cars.

    The ID.4 will be sized between the old Tiguan and the current plus-sized Tiguan.

    We'll get the ID4 crossover, IIRC, as a 2022MY.

    North America is the third market for plug ins. China and Europe are first and second. With production ramp up times, and the possibility of constraints on battery supply during the ramp up, the US will not be a primary market for anybody's BEV plans, besides Tesla.

    For Canada, we're getting them next year as well (so yeah possibly as 2022MY). No current plans for ID.3 at the time of this writing but they also said "never say never". Future ID products will depend on the success of the ID.4

    The thing is, the ID.4 will be first launched in RWD form with 4Motion offered at a later date (whatever date that may be). It will be very competitive with the Model Y in pricing according to VW Canada. (which I take to mean, it'll be cheaper since the Model Y has a longer range than the ID.4 and Tesla is technically a luxury brand vs. VW... I'd say the Q4 E-Tron will be a closer competitor to the Model Y imo).

    Hey!
    I'm working on a below $20K BEV too!

    I started with a $60K Tesla and by 2030 I think it will be down to $20K

    Mine is 23,500 miles after 14 months. So how long is the battery warranty?

    even better;
    Volkswagen ID.4 all-electric crossover is officially official, and it's coming soon

    that is - "if" they follow through ... and "if" they are more honest than they were, regarding diesel cleanliness and efficiency
    ;)
