2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vs Honda CR-V Hybrid Thread

MY concern with the electric AWD is how well it keeps up working crawling a mile or so through soft sand.

 

We got the RAV4H approx March 1 just before the COVID shut down, of course not realizing the pending shut down of auto sales.
We knew the CR-Vh was coming out March 1, but my wife had no interest in being a guinea pig tester of a new auto model.

We were attempting to get a car popular with older folks.

Almost 2 months and we only filled up once, and the only reason we filled up was our grocery store gaso credits were expiring. I think MPG is amazing for vehicle size, for short trips around town like we do these days, I am thinking as good as Gen2 Prius.

What Car video above seems inaccurate. USA 2020 RAV4H does have Apple CarPlay standard, and we have the cheapest SE model. We did not go for electric motorized seats, so he is comparing Honda with manual seats to RAV4 with the motorized seats.

The nice thing about RAV4, whereas most car reviewers have intense hatred for Prius before they even start writing their Prius-bash articles, opposite is true for RAV4.

 

I'd say the missing spare tire is important missing feature in CRV.

 

How often do you do that?

I find it good enough, in snow and on Colorado dirt roads, while having the advantage of boosting the overall performance of the vehicle.

By the way, after a year and 14,000 miles on ours we have averaged a bit over 39 mpg. That includes the lower winter MPG and a road trip at 80+ mph against the wind in Montana which lowered the average a bit. Quite satisfied.

 

Currently, i don't, but if I'm going to pay extra for AWD or 4WD(and you are on the Rav4h), I'd like to be able to use it driving on beaches in NJ for fishing instead of trudging through the deer tick infested dunes.

 

i do find the mpg display to be accurate. To get truly accurate mpg based on how much you put in the tank you really have to average a few tanks or more. My Rav4 Hybrid has the common problem of the fuel tank not filling fully and consistently, so calculating that way with one tank is especially inconsistent. So, I now count on the display. Their 2020 Rav didn't seem to have the tank problem but many do.

Here is what I don't like about the Honda: As shown in the video, the rav4 easily beats their EPA numbers, the Honda under performs. It is typical of Toyota hybrids to have conservative mpg numbers, Honda, not so. I wonder if Honda getting by with both a smaller ICE and a lower capacity battery is a factor and/or whether their different hybrid design makes a difference. Honda's new hybrid design is much better than their old "mild" hybrids but I'll still take Toyota's proven design.

By the way, the video showed the guy in the rear seat with the front seats fully back. We find that in real life passengers are perfectly comfortable, even for long drives. The CRV does have unusually generous rear leg room.

 

Sun roof reduces head space, and I also dislike Sun roof.
In some of the reviews above, where they discuss head space, they seem to be comparing car with sun roof to one without sun roof, which is apples and oranges.

We liked the manual seats of the SE model because I perceived a little more leg space. Also the manual seats these days are better - you can pump them up and down, as well as back and forward.

 

Toyota is still hybrid MPG King

 

I presume that you are talking about the driver's seat? One complaint about the passenger seat is that it is manual with no height adjustment. Some tall people just don't fit unless they recline the back more than usual. Fortunately, that's not a problem for my wife and I. She does wish she could lower it some.

 

Let me check..OK yes I guess the "pump up" lever is only on drivers side. Wonder if you could order an EU drivers seat for the US PAX side?

For the RAV4H, I would think plenty of head room, but of course the sunroof if present takes away a couple inches. I am 6-ft and do not notice a problem (on PAX side). It does look like there is more ceiling height the farther back the seat is.
