hi i was wondering is it normal if you let ur prius idle and it using the battery and then later the engine kicks in it shakes the car for a sec it does that every time the engine kicks in when its idling.
In some its normal, as long ad there isn't the red triangle light or check engine light showing on the dashboard
A couple of things that can help: Tuneup (easy) and new motor mounts (not so easy). Also, it's a gen 2 thing.
if it's occasional, it's usually unburned hydrocarbons in the intake manifold., usually caused by turning the car off while the engine is running. best to try to avoid the situation if possible.
i already did the tune up for the engine ( sparkplug, engine air filter, cleaning MAF sensor and throttle body) i did not replace the motor mount tho.
The WORST Prius start-up vibration I have experienced is still much less annoying than any of the non-hybrid vehicles I have driven with "auto stop/start", what garbage!
Another thing that can help (which could also be classed as a tune-up): Reconditioning cycle of the HV (hybrid vehicle) battery. While on my car it was not too bad, more of an annoyance, this was one of the things I noticed immediately after doing its first recondition. The car no longer lingered or shuddered when transitioning to ICE off. To date, some four years later, still smooth. I am using a HA (Hybrid Automotive) system for reconditioning. I wonder if any other reconditioners out there could comment if you noticed the same. Whether positive or negative, all feedback would be useful.
