    A moron is a meathead.

Why not? You could weave the fries together and make PPE.

    Topic Drift here...
But before I ate as a vegetarian, which lasted about a year or so, I worked with two young co-workers who were vegetarians. One day one of them brought in a vegetarian "beef" stick and he INSISTED I try it because it tasted EXACTLY like meat.

OMG! It was horrible. I can't describe what it tasted like, but it wasn't meat. I prayed for a way to get it OUT of my mouth.
Maybe it was like Zombie Flesh soaked in Soy Sauce? But no, worse.

Anyway, when I recovered we had a discussion. Coming out of this summit, I think I realized the problem was this kid hadn't eaten meat in so long, he had no real tangible idea of what meat actually tastes like. We ended the summit on a truce, he would no longer try to entice me to eat his meat substitute products, and I would try to stop retching every time I saw him.

To maybe tie this to the topic?
If you think your insulated from this because you are a vegetarian? Think again.
If I can't get hamburger, I'm coming for your veggie patties. The Shortage trickles down.

Try the Morning Star products first.
They are the least noxious of the fake meats.
I actually used to use the sausage links before I went over to the dark side because they are more brown bag friendly (bacteria are smart enough to prefer real meat!)
Their griller crumbles are almost edible.
A company called LightLife (IIRC) makes “smart dogs” that are pretty close to real hot dogs - but THEY are barely meat.

For GOODNESS sake stay away from the Field Burgers and no matter what the veggies tell you “Tofurkey” is something you will want to eat only in a very large hot dog bun with as many aromatic ingredients as you can find.

Made a good profit on BYND (Beyond Meat Inc) stock in my portfolio before the COVID-19 crush. Maybe a good time to get it back...

I did eat as a vegetarian for over a year.
So I know there are good substitutes, and options.
I do include meat in my diet now. And the majority of my life. BUT...I still enjoy the veggie patty burger once in a while. They can be really good, as just a meal choice for no reason other than I like them.

My vegetarian phase was when I was younger, and in better shape, and running.
It kept my weight down, and I admit I felt better.

The truth however was I wasn't really good at being a vegetarian. Not too good at really cooking up vegetarian meals. Relied too much on the pre-made, frozen vegetarian options and or just a lot of beans and rice. I don't think at one point I was getting enough protein or minerals.

I had NEVER broken a bone in my life. And during this period I broke my elbow. Maybe unfairly I tied the break to being I wasn't healthy enough eating vegetarian, so I returned to allowing meat into my diet.

Too old now, I'm not going back. I enjoy a good burger from time to time, and a good steak too.....
But I still think the typical American Diet has way too much meat in it.
I mean when you are watching ads for burgers with 4 patties in them, at this age I can hear the Grim Reaper laughing, daring me to eat it.

Favorite Irish pub here, before closed for dine-in, had just dropped their black bean 'burger' option in favor of one of the newfangled things (Beyond or Impossibl, I don't remember which).

I always liked the black bean patty. It looked like black beans, tasted like black beans, and it was just fine. The newfangled thing was, I duná Žno, chewy, kind of exhausting to work through.

For me, if I'm going to have something that isn't meat, I'd just as soon have it not pretend to be meat.

Then afterwards, he could eat them with his Big Mac and KFC dinners.
That reminds me of a time my spouse decided to try a vegan 'hotdog' offered at the end of an event. It Was Awful! (Sorry, we didn't get to see the specific brand.) She had just one bite then rejected it. I tried to, with the same result.

We figured this must have been some form of meat aversion therapy. With all the good things they can make, why would a vegan want a meat-substitute item anyway?

My wife wanted a hamburger so we stopped at Burger King to get the 2-for-$6 special and found the 'Impossible Burger' was part of the set. She had dead cow and I had what the cow eats, impossible burger.

There was a time when the impossible burger cost ~$6.

We have rifles (yes, BIG rifles, Bisco, but, for shame, no Gatling guns). We also have an abundance of deer, elk, turkey, wrabbits, squirrels -- even a few canines.

If we were down to starve or shoot, I guess we would shoot, but the wildlife around my place "knows" it place and the dogs keep them away from my veggie gardens and fruit beds and orchards.

Since we had a month's supply of food (actually more like three months), we have not been too concerned about grocery stores and the various and sundry shortages (And, yes, I have in the hundreds of pounds of dog food). Only have about 40 gallons of water, which we calculated was enough for a month...sorta.

So, we can survive without "meat" quite well. And, if need be, we could "harvest" locally, but while I could do it, I really would prefer not to shoot one of the critters.

I lived in the rural part of Kentucky years ago and had a large 1/8 acre garden. I had dogs also and we had no problems with the many deer, rabbits, squirrels, raccoons etc getting into our garden.

I relocated in Kentucky to a small city to be closer to my job. My garden in the city is overrun by rabbits, raccoons and squirrels. Ironic in a way. For years the critters outwitted me which may speak more about my intelligence compared to the critters intelligence. A year ago I finally had enough and this is what my garden looks like now - a barrier of 1" mesh chicken wire that is buried 6 inches deep so the more industrious critters can't burrow underneath it. I initially used plastic pvc green mesh fence that the rabbits seemed to enjoy chewing holes through. I have also tried repellents, plant shields scarecrows and other things.

I still am not going to claim victory as these critters have continually demonstrated they are smarter than I am but I humbly hope we have reached some sort of a stand off.

Here is a picture of my garden - I just planted most things so it looks a little barren. The PVC barriers and bird netting are for our strawberries

The secret....if it is one....is the dogs need to be out in the garden 24/7.

Since I have real trouble sleeping...
