I have a 2020 Limited. Apple Car Play does not work the majority of the time. It will always work when I start the car up but usually within a few minutes it says Apple Carplay Error. Sometimes I can unplug the cord and immediately replug it and it works. Other times I can plug it in over 10 times in a row and it still won't work. Sometimes it will work for hours before getting an error but lately it has been happening within the first few minutes of the car being on. I have tried multiple cords. I wonder if it is a problem with Entune which seems to be required. Has anyone else had issues? How did you fix them?
Mine is working fine. Some things that I would try- Make sure you are running the most current iOS software Currently 13.4.1 Try a different USB cable. Some of the cheaper cables can be a little flaky. Try restarting the unit in the Prius by holding the audio button down until it restarts. Sometimes that will prompt a software update. If all else fails make an appointment with the dealer. If it is a hardware problem you want to start documenting it. Good luck
I have tried multiple cables, all with the same result. All charge my phone with an outlet and work briefly with carplay so I do not think it is that. Software is up to date and I have deleted bluetooth/carplay and then repaired carplay on my phone. Might be time for the dealer but it isn't a problem I can force to happen on command so I'm guessing they won't do anything about it. Maybe they'll surprise me.
My dealer seemed to take it seriously when I had a rebooting problem with my unit. It seems to be a lot better now.
I am having the same problem. New cords, all phones updated. New iPhone 12 Pro Max. Worked ok for the first couple months now it’s hit and miss. Won’t even charge. Cables (tried many including OEM) charges on the back seat ports but not the front… sometimes. Cord except for testing is never removed, plug ok. Also the cordless charger seems to stop working “sometimes” when this happens. Light for power will not come on.
The back seats USBs are not for data only for charging. You have to the the one behind the cup holders for apple play. The USB for data are meant for transferring phone' data, it does provide SOME charging but not really meant to charge so its normal to no see significant charging Also you have to use a OEM cable, not the drug store ones.
I know that. I merely was indicating that they work. I have used two separate new phones and the problems repeat. I have used oem and non, which non oem belkcan cables worked when I bought it in January. IOS is updated.
Purely anecdotal, but I had encountered problems when I used to plug mine in before the car was done booting up. Since I’ve gone to plugging in/unlocking the phone after that step, it’s been golden.
I get this once a month. Sometimes rebooting the head unit works, sometimes rebooting the phone works. I believe it is a combination of ios bugs and toyota bugs. Have you tried using your apple car play in another car with your phone? I did and thats how i figured out sometimes the connection issue is the phone itself and not the car.
Has anyone found a solution for this ?? The problem is still there along with the wireless charger intermittently going out. One clue I did see is the entune is throwing a download error.
I ran into this for the first time today and restarting the phone did not help, but restarting the car did clear it. Especially since it seems like you can reproduce the issue—if your phone is still under warranty or you have AppleCare, I would open a ticket with Apple support online. They may be able to diagnose the issue after pulling some logs from you phone. If not, I’d bring the car into the dealer, see if it happens with another car there, and hopefully reproduce the issue on your car while you’re there.
you sholdnt have to restart your car, you can reboot the screen by press and holding the power button on the right side of the screen. This saves you the annoyance of pulling over while youre driving.
Ok a long overdue follow up. Toyota has admitted there is a problem. They "claim" in a TSB that its iphone12 that has this problem. But that is not true as I have several different iPhone including my 12promax, work 11 and a 8 to try. All were faulting. Its not the cables, the version of OS, rebooting the head and all the other wastes of time people think are fixing it. The problem lies in the com / charging port itself. Its been silently recalled. After a long drawn out multiple conversation back and forth phone conversation with Toyota customer service, then a apple technical support specialist at Toyota that told me they assigned a "team" to this problem and it appears it indeed is a hardware problem. The part number for the com / charging port to fix this is 86190-12040. It was installed free of charge. Not sure if I should make a separate thread for this so everyone isn't put through all the "ideas" to fix this. All they do is reset the port until it fails again. Moderator please let me know if this needs to be on a separate thread. Apologize for the delay, dealing with crazy supply chain issues at my plant. Here is Toyotas link for it : 8619012040 - Adapter assembly, stereo jack, no. 1. Aux, smartphone - Genuine Toyota Part
Thanks for the detail. I have same issue and would like to fix. Should I go to the Toyota dealer and ask with your info?
