i think this was mentioned earlier, not sure if the same article.

Yeah, I am guessing there is very little coordination going on. Just enough to make the show go on.

They do seem to be talking. The gov is making it easier for the rural areas to open up while the big population mayors are keeping a bit tighter control. Seems logical I guess. I just hope it's not being done too soon.

very interesting story in bloomberg business week from a reporter on the ground in wuhan.

april 23: 'inside the dystopian, post-lockdown world of wuhan'

what they did to corral the virus, what they're doing to keep it down, and how life has changed dramatically.

one story, relative to prius chat, is the avoidance of all public transportation, and booming car sales, 'even if it means sitting in gridlock all day'.

we'll never pull it off in a non communist country. the personal restrictions are incredible, and the penalties for violations draconian. we can't even enforce social distancing

    From the article in Bloomberg:
" There’s only one way to durably protect the population, (he said) a vaccine."

Regardless of protocols and actions put in place to try to minimize risk of exposure and spread of the virus,
as this crisis continues on, it seems to me more and more that a vaccine is really the only answer that leads to a sustainable complete return. And unfortunately at this time, a vaccine doesn't exist.

I hope I'm wrong. And that the primary measures of social distancing and "staying home" -self isolation, are enough to reduce the threat of Covid-19 to the point that "we" the USA and the world, can return to operating as we did before this crisis.

At this point, despite the fact that China is implementing a level of vigilance and control that probably wouldn't ever be accepted in most other countries, as it was the epicenter, it now becomes the demonstrable test center for how thoroughly and completely a recovery can be made, at this point without a vaccine.

It's nerve wracking, and not being a medical scientist, I step away from any pronouncements about how much of a potential challenge this may become or is, but when I read statements like this:

"Scientists warn that the novel coronavirus is stealthy and robust, and a resurgence is still possible"-from the article

I have to wonder how thorough/permanent any non-vaccine recovery might be, and what timeline we are talking about.

    There are multiple prongs:
    1. contact tracing - this can be done using smartphone tracking. So if someone comes down with future versions, where have you been for the past 10-14 days. This helps identify sources and who may have been exposed.
    2. social habits - bring back the personal handkerchief infused with 'dry' sanitizer and minimize fingers to eyes, nose, and mouth.
    3. vaccination - this virus appears to likely generate different strains which means the vaccine is likely to require annual changes.
    4. anti-viral - ranging from plasma antibodies through anti-virals to give patients a chance to develop.
    5. anti-inflammation - for those whose immune response goes overboard and attacks their own body.
    6. protective gear - most effective in hospitals, clinics, and affordable for the rest of us.
    7. fiction control - separate fantasies and speculations from empirical facts and data.

RIght now in the USA I'd say #7 is a very challenging.

    7. fiction control - separate fantasies and speculations from empirical facts and data.

    For various reasons.
Vast access to the internet and information sources of various levels validity.
A primary media, that I think still leans toward reporting the most negative outcomes and potentials, in an attempt to grasp audience. Unfortunately "Fear Sells".
And IMO right now, a Government embroiled in an upcoming Election cycle, with divided parties both of which want to grasp the high ground of being "right" about their handling of the crisis, and both wanting to define the other as being wrong.
So you get advisers being dismissed, finger pointing on both sides, and splintered information being used adversarially for political traction.

I think the facts and data are out there, but right now finding them, is like playing "Where's Waldo?".

I'm testing "Find My Friends" app on my iPhone as a way to track my movements. I have it set to send the results to a second, e-mail account. I've also shared this suggestion with my facebook friends. The goal:
    1. Identify where I might have contacted CoV.
    2. Identify where I might have spread CoV.
I'm simply following what I understand the Chinese are doing using what we have available at hand. Once I have tested it this weekend, I'll share the results with my family physician as well as 'blood kin.'

You may be over-thinking the problem. It is something we learned in high school English, cite your source.

Oh come Bob...we've both hung around Prius Chat long enough...you KNOW I ALWAYS over think the problem.
But there's no source to cite here.
Except for my first statement, which is that the "internet" is vast and allows for access to countless outlets of information of varying degrees of legitimacy and validity-which I don't think needs citing to defend, my other two points-Media and Fear Sells, and Government, are opinions.
Opinions of which I think the reality is so obvious as to NOT need the asterisk of a cited source, but admittedly opinions.

I spent several days in rural Yunnan, where apparently this virus never got going. No lockdown, no facemasks, people in proximity. It felt weird.

Also, if I set one foot out of Yunnan Province, I buy 14 hotel nights at my own expense. Choices available are few, expensive and not deluxe. Don't want to give a false impression that things are normal here. Only abnormally normal in some places.

Others in Kunming have experienced anti-foreigner sentiment but I have not. Anyone who measures my infrared emissivity, I greet them in Italian, but nobody gets the 'joke'.

The 'identify sources' business is transitive. That is, the whole "oh my goodness, different people are saying different things, how ever shall I know what's what??" gets a good dose of simplification from looking at those different people and how forthcoming they are about their sources. That's why our English teachers thought it so important to give us the habit.
