I believe our governor has told police to cease enforcing inspection expiries for 60 days. Perhaps they will extend temporary licenses too if needed.

Maybe. Or maybe he'll slap me with the $750 fine for operating a vehicle without registration. Not a risk I'm willing to take.

Telephone the non-emergency number of the local and state police departments and ask.

In NJ, as soon as you call your insurance co. and give them the info, you're covered. As for everything else, if the cops aren't pulling people for the violations I see driving around, I wouldn't worry about it.

pretty simple here in ma too. everything done at the dealer with the dmv and your insurer, and inspection sticker.
for a private sale, you have a couple days to drive around and get what you need, iirc.

Oddly in my town you can get a car license but not a state driver's license. Two different entities. The drivers license place has seating for 40. The car license plate and title place has a snaking line that accommodates about 30 people and puts you within 6 feet of a dozen. The license plate shop is a contractor. The drivers license plate shop is state employees.

Semi related: it seems gas sales have fallen off the cliff in the UK and gas stations are closing due to lack of demand.

UK Gas Stations Face Closure Over Low Demand. Are US Stations Next? - The Drive

I started laughing though when he said US stations, not where I live at least. But with 9.9 M people now filing for unemployment in the last 2 weeks, maybe the number of gas stations will consolidate a little more into even bigger ones. Could have a snowball effect though as people return to work, and there are fewer places to refuel than last time.

Depending on which car, I can use any available. So I'm a little confused about the details? Could you fill this out a little better?

Now if you mean the utility companies reduce their residential and business rates, I'd agree but then who fixes the power lines when a storm blows them down. But I would be happy for a two-tier pricing model with a cheap, after hours rate for EVSE only circuits and keeping the regular rate for all else.

i mean converting the defunct gas stations to charging stations. vdub, and all the other tesla wannabe's.

car type doesn't matter, power lines not involved, no utility companies or rates, no pricing model, competitive.

I agree with the sentiment. The cheapest approach would be to add a row of NEMA 14-30 or NEMA 14-50, outlets in all weather boxes. This can provide 24-32 miles/hr, enough to reach a fast DC charger or take a 3-4 hour nap to reach ~100 miles. Not great but better than what we see today.

Follow up to my own post. Apparently, there are a few people still working at the DMV, answering emails as fast as they can. I just now got this response to an email I sent Wednesday:

The vehicle cannot be registered until the DMV re-opens. You must park the vehicle on private property until it can be registered.

In an effort to mitigate the possible spread of COVID-19 among state employees, their families, and the general public, beginning close of business tonight, March 17th, the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles will temporarily shut down its public facing operations, until further notice.
