Some places here have banned bring-your-own bags outright. Fees for using the store's bags were suspended.

I thought the plastic bag ban may have been suspended someplace too, but will have to check that out.

Customers are being asked to bag their own groceries if they want to use their own bags they brought in, which includes all types of bags, including paper. We can, at their option, use new paper bags and then bag their groceries for them.

We are asked to not wear gloves, although there are exceptions on a case to case basis. But they must change out their gloves extremely often. A glove shortage is a real possibility. Bare hands clean better with the alcohol spray.

Like the ones at buffets, I always wondered how effective they are, especially on cruise ships. The outbreak of the NORO virus on these ships have been known for years.

I read about those for the customer's side of the counter yesterday at a trade journal site. Haven't got those installed yet, but just something else to clean every 10 minutes. Pretty soon we'll be cleaning so many things that we won't be able to clean all the things that we're supposed to be cleaning all the time. Maybe we need to hire Mr. Clean.

Publix stores to have barriers for cashiers as virus spreads | The Seattle Times

"Publix has joined its biggest competitors, Kroger Co. and Walmart Inc., in installing the so-called “sneeze guards.”"

No Publix here, but Kroger has a very large presence here under the Fred Meyer name. I saw local pictures earlier today, but can't find them now.

I will say that the commute time is lighter. WAY fewer wrecks on the traffic reports. When they say "no accidents" on I-4 or on the Howard Frankland Bridge in the same report at 7:00 AM, that's big news.

In our area, I'm seeing more cars running 15-20 mph over the speed limit. We've had two recent, fatal pedestrian accidents so I'm expecting to see more traffic enforcement.

I live along a state highway, 40 limit. I'm on the one straight stretch of it where everyone feels the need to verify their throttle return spring. Usually that means 50-55; but I measured one at 80 the other day.

Personally I'm expecting to see more violations and accidents, not so sure about enforcement.

Enforcement locally has dropped to zero.
I saw a local LEO backed into a closed business in "interrogate and acquisition" mode this AM but the few drivers going by weren't even bothering to tap the brakes, and the LEO was obviously just showing the flag.

We're currently enduring a 2-year road project right through the busiest part of town, and before the bug bite 3 LEOs at a time were collecting "double coupon" speeding fines from frustrated morning committers.

    Now?
Road construction continues at a brisk pace, but there's not enough motorists to justify running radar, and the boyz in blue are not that interested in getting up close and personal.
I drive up and down the same 50 mile stretch of interstate pretty much every day and usually see at least one, and often 2 or 3 State LEOs on revenue duty....since I live in location where the exits are often 10 or more miles apart.

    Haven't seen em lately.
