Any idea why my car will not start or respond in any capacity to anything? Car was broken into from front passenger window. Window was in process of being replaced. Car drove fine between break in and replacement. Now nothing. So odd. Doesn't seem like the kinda thing that would be relevant to the issue. Either some freak coincidence or it is related. Gen 4 Prius 2. No Lane assistance or adaptive cruise etc. Tried disconnecting and reconnecting the 12v battery. Nothing. Out of ideas.
I have no idea, but a wild guess. Car won't start if door is not closed. Maybe when they replaced the glass they interfered with the sensor that tells the car that door is closed???
Welcome. That sure stinks about the break in. The shop most likely left the door open too long and killed your 12v battery. Did you measure it?
It was trashed. You would be right generally but this one has 126k miles already. That's about right for these. Got it to start a couple times but ultimately not enough to drive it. Glad it is fixed! It's unfortunate there isn't done indication the battery is nearing it's end before it happens because it is especially worrying and confusing and difficult when it happens.
As someone mentioned, it could have been because of doors being left open while the glass replaced. But - 126k miles is a good life, though the 12v battery only works to run the electronics and electrical functions - not to start the vehicle. I don't know of any car which has a 12v battery health indication - my experience is that they either get weak then die, or just suddenly die.
Actually, the 12v battery does "start" the vehicle, in a way... It powers the ECUs and enables the main traction battery to come online. But you're right, there is no starter motor. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
