My first Prius - 2013 III with 131k miles for $6800. Question about premium gas

    Wow, yeah that looks bad. Well seems like the verdict is out, and based on what others have said and all the threads on this, I'd trust that over one tech's opinion.

    I'll watch those videos and wait for a warm day, probably something I could handle with enough time.

    Start with a check of the EGR pipe, takes about an hour. You'll need a ratchet wrench, about 9" of extension (mainly to reach one bolt at the bottom of the air box), a 10 mm socket, a 10 mm box wrench (for one pesky bolt at the pipe to intake manifold connection..., that's about it. Maybe a torque wrench, if you're picky, a low-torque 3/8" drive one would be good.

    There used to be an commercial, "Why wait for spring, do it now" ;)

    Yeah, as far as doing just the pipe, I ought to have everything I need (if I can find it!), except a torque wrench.. Is it possible to just clean the pipe out and then call it day, or is that not sufficient to take care of the issue? At the very least, after seeing Jburg's photo, I feel like I gotta set aside some time soon here to at least do that one step.

    Also, another post to come probably about an apparent leak in the master brake cylinder (according to the mechanic today). Will do some forum searches before I post anything.

    So far I am really enjoying this change from an older Tundra to the Prius. Just want to make sure I have everything in order so that it will take me past 200k, ideally.

    Cleaning the pipe is mainly a reconnoiter, to get some idea what the rest is like. The rest includes the intake manifold as well. I would budget a day for that. MIght help to prep the night before, get most of the stuff off and ready.
