Just a thought, I wonder if Toyota got enough emails asking about Android Auto being retrofitted to the 2020 Prius Prime if that might make a difference in them deciding to do it and/or do it sooner than later.

Some people might think their lone email won't make a difference, but if enough people email who knows ?

Also, I would think Toyota must realize not everyone who wants Android Auto is going to email, hopefully they realize for everyone who does email there might be even 4 or 5 others (or more) who want Android Auto but don't email.

Toyota seems to indicate they value their customer's opinions, so let's put it to the test.

Go to the Toyota contact page at the link below and email them specifically asking about if the 2020 Prius Prime will be retrofitted with Android Auto.

Toyota FAQs | Send Questions to Toyota Customer Service

THEN, when you get a reply post what they say in this thread, and maybe eventually someone will get a reply saying they are now working on an Android Auto retrofit for the 2020 Prius Prime !

Hey, we can hope and it doesn't hurt to try ! :D

Okay, since I already contacted Toyota prior to starting this thread I'll post the response I got:

Here is a quote from their reply I received on Friday, Feb. 21st:

".....there are no current plans for Toyota to introduce a software update to add Android Auto as an available feature for the audio system in the 2020 Prius Prime" (end quote)

Note that the word "current" could imply it MIGHT be something they could later on plan to do.

Also, it could infer that it IS something that is possible to do "tech wise" or they simply could have said it is not technically possible to do.

I did a follow-up email for further clarification and asked if adding Android Auto at a later date might still be something that could eventually happen, or should we just completely give up on expecting it to ever be added to the 2020 Prius Prime.

(and also asked IF they would never do it, then why not ?)

    …...hopefully I'll have a reply within a few days !

I'll wait till summer to see. I somehow doubt they'll tell you anything different until they release a new version. Toyota is pretty tight lipped. If they do release it in 2021 prius prime I'll have some hope.. if they don't then darn we're screwed.

I hear ya :D and I agree they do seem to usually tend to be tight lipped about their plans, so I'd be surprised if they replied to anyone saying yes unless they were actually ready to do it real soon, but as far as emailing them it was more for letting them know how much many people really do want Android Auto in hopes that might help sway their decision if they are still undecided at this point.

How about potential Prime buyers send an email saying they are holding out on
their purchase until the Prime is sold with Android Auto?

That may do more in the long run

Although it may not be what is holding me fully back, but I suppose others.

That's a good idea for those who it would be a deciding factor, and I have read of others that said no Android Auto could actually cause them to choose something other than the Prime, if that is the case with some then let Toyota know, maybe it would add extra motivation to offering a retrofit of Android Auto to the Prime sooner than they otherwise might.

I've heard that said before, likely in relation to why some regional dealerships don't usually have any in stock, but why do they even bother to make a car if they don't want to sell much ?

So this car was only meant to be sold overseas and in California ?

and that is why other regions don't advertise or stock them and we had to special order one from Japan ?

I mentioned to people at our local hardware store about the Prime and it was like they never even heard of it !

not cali only. car makers get credits for selling in any carb state. i think there are 15 or 20.

what will determine if toyota wants to sell more will be battery availability and profit margin. so far, the marketing and promotion (not to mention inventory) have been lackluster.

    i don't see prime there

Yep, I thought I remembered there were more carb states than just California but I'm still learning, I was not even fully aware of "carb" stuff until I started researching the Prime, there's a lot of various info to research and remember :D

I think this makes more sense. It has more threat to their bottom line. I essentially told them this several months ago, after reminding them I currently own 3 Toyotas (gave them VIN's) and how many I'd owned previously. I implied they are way behind the other brands when it comes to "creature feature inside tech" and I was looking elsewhere since they would not give us what we want. I mentioned not allowing the display of simple album art without having the E-Brake on for fear of being sued was pretty 1980's thinking.

rav4 phev could prove very popular here, if toyota decides to promote it and roll out to all 50 states.

to be fair, i'm sure they are getting pushback from dealers who just don't care.

Thanks, hey, it can't hurt and at least we'll know we tried !

Interesting, another reply seems to answer why -
"Plug-In or true BEV in current format are just not popular in Japan. The infrastructure for charging is inadequate for most part even at their own home."

That is good to let them know all the things you'd like to see addressed !

Wow, with Japan's technical ability you'd think that would not be a problem there and that the manufacturers would help it happen to encourage more sales.

Why do you think dealers don't care, do they make less profit on PHEV's or are there other reasons ?

Wouldn't the same reason the Prime is only pushed in carb states also have them only push the RAV4 PHEV in carb states also ?

i just think plug ins are too complicated for some dealers. and let's face it, in our current environment, there's not going to be a lot of pull through from customers.

a priuschatter goes to a dealer in a non carb state to look at a prime, and they don't have one.

but for every priuschatter, there are a million customers buying gassers.
