I don't see us getting the Yaris hybrid. We don't even get the Toyota Yaris.

I'm hoping it might come to Canada. Small hatches are more popular here than in the US. Still too small for me, however.

There has also been word of a subcompact SUV built on the new Yaris. There might be a better chance for it in the US.

A minuature and cheaper version of RAV4 Prime would be really nice.

The Toyota hybrids mostly do save significant gas and CO2. Hybrids from other brands don't always save very much.

In Canada, depending on the province, we do have a carbon tax that is slated to periodically increase. I think it's wishful thinking on Larry's part to expect hybrid incentives to come back. There really isn't too much of a price premium for hybrids now, especially if you properly figure the fuel savings (most people probably don't). Even a small incentive could tip hybrids into being the cheapest option in many cases.

Don't forget, Lexus is part of Toyota.;) The LS and LC hybrids could use an incentive, but they are mid 20's in mpg at best.

what ... are you saying those of us that bought gen 1 & 2 Prius, or Gen 1 & 2 rav4-ev - or something like the Mirai aren't early adopters? Seems like catering to me. It's just that the caterer is often bringing out the same thing - repackaged ... other than the Mirai - which has required massive taxpayer incentives from the get-go. That's why some here feel like that whole "know your audience phrase" is doublespeak.

I have very detailed blogs, written at the time that was playing out, documenting who.... knowing revisionist history would be a source of conflict later.

so ... i'll just what ... read back through 1½ decades of both of our writings & see what you're talkin about? that's not what's going to help any others - (sigh) guess a few pots o' coffee & maybe in a few days - perhaps i'd find what you mean? presuming memories are spot on? Otherwise - no one's going to understand what you meant?
And - (above, where you say 'that' was playing out) when 'WHAT' was playing out ... the vehicles mentioned above? those cars were all started during different times frames, not even counting the short-lived Prius v ... and who is trying to revise history ... it should be easy enough to just SAY what history was revised - if that's the case. we ought to ALL respect differing views - but who's going to read back 1½ decades of our writings to figure out whether something was not stated right, or revised - much less - just differences in opinions. It'd be far more understandable to just say someone's name -
For instance - saying you documented 'who' ... people are clueless weather that is a person, or anti-hybrid owners like truck drivers, or other manufacturers like GM or Ford? i used to think it was just me not understanding, but I see others are confused as well, or I wouldn't bother to mention it.

Well at least I don't have early 'senile dementia' as I don't have to re-read the postings. <GRINS>

What I find amusing is how many of the earliest Prius criticisms were recycled for BEVs. Famous hits like:
    • "landfills of batteries"
    • "nickel or cobalt mines"
    • "battery costs"
    • "rolling road hazards" - Prius too slow, Tesla too fast
    • "status symbol of the rich and famous"
    • "leaf-looking, Bambi lovers, greenies"
    • "quiet killers of the blind, pedestrians, and bicyclists"
Actually, @john1701a has probably forgotten more skeptic claims than I've listed.

    Yes
    - & it was a halo car.
    - & it really doesn't save money
    - & its handling was so so
(ok - some of us DID have to add the stiffening plate - available here, at the Prius store!)
yep - all that I do remember.

It did, and still does, where gas is sold at 6+ USD/ gal - Europe.

Certainly you get more people on the bandwagon by pushing anti-carbon, & that's fine - but heck, just making ANY transportation more efficient means carbon lowering follows .... even if it's an all-electric car, where all the juice comes from burning natural gas. I'm making a Cannonball run right now from SoCal to Nashville and every stop is coordinated with charging, which means the trip will cost less then if we didn't charge at all. We figure I'm driving over 5k Miles in the next couple weeks - so here's to efficiency, low-carbon, & accident free i40 travels

There's a bit of irony, Toyota thinking the answer to big sales & clean air is hybrids, Plug-In or otherwise. Hope that works for them. Meanwhile?
VW - after getting burned with diesel cheating software fraud set new goals. Entire fleet all electric. Next thing you know, Bamm ... once again VW takes top billing - they're Numero Uno - for last yr - 2019
