This is getting just like it was when we were all waiting to get our cars. Now we are waiting for our money. I assume the fly over states will be last again. I sense a support group forming.

Yes, but not until after you pay TurboTax for their service. Until then, only summaries and the bottom line are available for display.
At least on other forms, the whole forms are sent. Except one time when the spouse and I had our own individual copies of the same auxilliary form, and TT sent only one. That caused a dunning letter from the IRS asking for more tax, but it was easily resolved.

I was over on tesla forum and some other forums...they are saying 3-15-18...This is nuts...ive been ready to file since the beginning of February and we are sitting here pending waiting ...they said get it filed so you can beat the hackers...yea thats the plan ...but the IRS is screwing around too much...my question is why is the form good for some and not good for other to file...seeing how i see some are already done with refunds back...if the forms no good for one its no good for all...

People who have filed used the 2016 edition of the form. TurboTax is waiting for the 2017 edition

Had my taxes completed on Turbo tax since 2/3/18 but could not file due to form 8936 not being available. Decided to print out a 2016 and tentative 2017 form and compare them. They are exactly the same line for line. So now that the form keeps getting pushed out every week I decided to try and and file on Credit Karma which offers FREE filing. So after many years of filing on Turbo Tax and paying 80 dollars a year to file I tried Credit Karma. Filling everything out on line and submitted both Federal and State (NY) forms and already had my Federal forms excepted. Will advise when/ if I get my refunds. Seems crazy to me that some sites allow you to file and some don't. Many people already claim to have filed and gotten refunds. I paid in and now I want my rightful refund on time. May the force be with me!!

Arrgh! 2 years later - same problem! I just got to the "fun" part of doing my taxes ($4500 about to come my way) when Turbo Tax tells me the earliest I will be able to finish is 2/12/20. :(

I'm in the same boat, again. Two years ago form 8936 for 2019 wasn't ready in TT until early March

I have some investments in funds that contain funds, and I won't get the 1099's for them until some time in March (my fund can't send me a 1099 until all the funds in my fund send them their 1099). I usually arrange things so I owe a bit at tax time, so it is no big deal for me. No point giving the government more of a free loan than I have to. As my tax advisor told me, I can get any size refund I want: just make more payments during the year. Seems kind of pointless.

I have one like that too, but it always comes by the end of February.

Otherwise, mine were done last week.
I commonly aim for the $500 to $1000 range in tax still owed. Then start filling out my draft tax forms around Christmas, to ensure being on target for the 4th Quarter estimate due January 15th. Though when there is greater uncertainty, I do lean on the side of paying more in order to be very certain of not encountering any underpayment penalty. I've had such a penalty only once, as a college student working summers, when I used a rule that wasn't taking effect until the following year (and has been in place ever since.) :-(

Both my Fed and State refunds were direct deposited yesterday. I used "Turdbo" Tax to E-File both on Jan 18th. The fed return was accepted Jan 21 and the state on the 27th. I was very surprised when the Fed accepted it a week before publicized. This was the first year in a long time that I didn't have anything odd and all my 1099's were accessible online very early instead of waiting on the snail mail. Refunds were small so I have my withholding tweaked just about right. I usually try to owe a little on both so I play on their money and not mine. ;)

    Mine goes in tomorrow....(Fed.)
State will be slower, but then they always are.

I Filed Friday....only because my cheese-log company waited until then to release my W2.

We've had our taxes prepared by a friend in the biz in the past, but last year she said that going forward it would be cheaper to file on-line....especially since I punched out of the union, and we tithe in cash.
This leaves home interest as the only real thing keeping me from filing EZ like many of the other 99-percenters.

I used Credit Karma (free fed/free state) and the process absolutely could not have been more simple.
I originally was just going to use them to guestimate my returns since I get Jackson-Hewett for free from work but we were literally done with state and fed in waaay less than a half hour, and just pulled the trigger.
I don't use their app, but they sent me an email stating that the refund was accepted by the feds (still waiting on state) and dot.gov's site informs me that the payment will drop tomorrow.

I usually go for a large return since I was forced to write a check with a comma in it during the 90's due to a clerical error that I didn't catch in time.

I've used Credit Karma since before the Equafax debacle and my credit has been locked down for years.....

I'll report back if there's a problem, but so far it's simple, safe, free and fast!

The standard deduction for tax-year 2019 is $24,400 for a married couple under age 65. If both are over 65, the standard deduction is $27,400. (Always check the numbers for accuracy.) I've stopped tracking what I used to deduct...there's no point; we won't exceed the standard deduction.

There is one way the charitable donations reduce the tax bill for those over age 70-1/2 who take the required minimum distribution (RMD) from their individual retirement account (IRA) or certain other retirement accounts (not a Roth IRA). A qualified charitable distribution (QCD) goes from the IRA custodian directly to the charity according to your instructions. The QCD counts as part of the RMD but does not show as adjusted gross income on the tax return. It reduces reported taxable income, thereby reducing the tax. Starting this year the age to begin the RMD rises to 72. If you were required to start the RMD before this year, you gott'a keep pulling it out. Check all this with your tax advisor, financial consultant, or IRA firm.

Yap, I ignored all the questions in TurboTax on deductions this year. I spent waaaay too long last year just to find out the standard deduction was increased to such a magnitude. The tax return was breeze this year, just like 1040EZ form in my premarital era. LOL Took maybe 30 min total??? In fact, Windows UPDATE I had to apply on my old desktop that has not been run for over a year took longer.:LOL::LOL:
