    If I had my way, mrs biscottis and I would sell everything and move to a quiet town in Italy.
    But as you know, I can’t even get her to California.
    The weather has been so cold this year though, she did mention Phoenix and then Cali next winter, fingers crossed!

    While with the US Air Force I was temporarily assigned to Zaragoza Spain. Zaragosa was a very nice city, but I was disappointed by the caste system that exists there between men and women. All the men that had the blue collar jobs while all the women had the menial labor jobs.

    I live for 7 years in Tucson, And every time I went to Phoenix, it was more humid and hotter.

    Phoenix is a bit warmer than Tucson, outside of autumn. Phx is lower elevation and more completely paved. Climates have very similar humidity though.

    Hang on now, don't presume it's even real data. I can't get Windy to show me the same thing when I look for SO2 concentrations in Wuhan for myself. I don't know if that's because I'm not driving the website correctly, or if that twitter link rhymes with "brake shoes" or what.

    But now that the cat's been let out of the bag, the result has been doctored.

    I suppose that's possible, no clue how the data gets made into pixels on windy.

    If you were given the task of faking this data, how would you do it? The best I can think of is to replay last years' tapes (so to speak) so that the data didn't look like an obvious fabrication.

    If this was a one time event, you would need to view windy.com at the time of the screen shot in the tweet, which was cropped to not show the time bar.

    edit: there was another post that did.

    I found the settings to change the sensitivity range. Previously everything was clipping at 80µg/m3

    Now I can more or less duplicate what was shown in that tweet, though it doesn't tell me if they've built a volcano or pulp mill or what really. Just that there really are a heck of a lot of SO2 emissions happening there.

    I have been following some discussions of this, but not closely.

    There are other satellite sources that ought to show if something large happened. SO2 would not appear absent other sensed chemicals, unless it were a very unusual fire.

    There are iron works in that area, by report, and perhaps also coal-fired thermoelectric plants. It could be speculated that spooling something up, and failing normal procedures, could lead to unintended releases.

    It has been speculated that dead carcasses of one species or another have been burned without emission controls. I have no information about that.

    ==
    Disease coverage got a bump when fatalities exceeded SARS' total. For several days, reports of new confirmed cases have been decreasing. It's not as newsy but it is exactly what one would expect when this beast transitions to logistic form. A competing hypothesis would be that confirmation testing has been reduced for reasons of supplies or manpower. Not possible to discern those from data currently available.
