Hi I'm wondering if I can install a touchscreen android head unit to my base model 2011 Prius (no screen/gps etc) Just wondering if a base model has all the necessary feeds to power an Android head unit. I would like Bluetooth, google maps, music player.
I got one for Christmas that I plan to install in the next few days (maybe today?). Will let you know how it goes. The answer should be yes.
I agree with TheeWood. Click on the link he shared and you should see everything you need to make the install work. It seems that the most important thing is getting all the correct cables and adapters to make the reverse screen and steering wheel buttons work.
I installed one today and having two issues... RCA output doesn't work and not getting signal to sub / amp. Steering wheel controls not working - not sure how to diagnose this... I suspect I did something wrong in wiring? Also, there were a couple unused wiring dongles in the car that I have no idea what they do Lol. One is probably satellite radio... not sure about the other, maybe OEM camera?
I just finished my install. Was very simple and looks great. Basically plug and play with the model I got.
Did you have to do anything in particular to get steering wheel controls working? I know in some cars you have to either hold down VOL UP key or repeatedly press same key with a new system to get the controls to re-initialize... mine are simply not showing up in the Android "Wheelkey Studio" app.
I bought this one. My prius is non-JBL. I haven't had time to mess with the steering controls app much but it looked like you just hold the button to set it. Was able to get this working by connecting pins #21 and #22 to the Android HU directly. Here are the diagrams that were useful. https://images.idatalink.com/corporate/Content/Manuals/RR-TOY/ADS-RR(SI)-TOY01-DS-IG-EN_20160815.pdf
Hey Theewood, How do you like this headunit of Sinosmart? How is the startup time? how is the software? I am a bit worried that it doesn't have a physical volume knob. This may be a safety issue (finding the volume up/down keys on a flat screen without looking away from the road). Unless I use the steering wheel controls (which I don't do often today).

My Prius is a 2015 Five with JBL. I've ordered canbus adapter, which, according to seller, should take care of the amplifier and the factory backup camera. I have my doubts about that. Factory camera needs 6V input, not 12V right? I don't see any voltage converter in the harness photos. Also, instead of 10 + 6 pin audio connectors I have a 20 pin connector (the one on the left in the photo) Looks like I'll have to troubleshoot as I go with this one.
The startup time is not an issue at all. The software isn't great and the screen mirror software that comes with it doesn't work but looks awful if it did work anyway. The lack of a volume knob took a bit to get used to and the backlight on the volume keys aren't great but it also has a volume button on screen that is easy to use and see. It's definitely not as plug and play as I thought it was going to be. I need to take some time to figure out how to get some things working or working better than they currently are such as radio reception and steering wheel controls.
I just wanted to follow up on this and say my unit didn't last long once late spring in Florida came. I think the heat did it in. The screen mostly shows black and white lines now.
