    Gotta love the misuse, abuse and legal issues of powerful people that make the news and the public reactions too.
    I don't always pay much, if any, attention to news or advertising these days.
    I'm not always sure how accurate this or that turns out to be in the ling run.
    I stumbled on this little gem at least 5, maybe 10 years ago now and since
    Nissan Motor vs. Nissan Computer - Digest.com
    it seems to reflect how large corporations tend to behave and how governments
    appear to reinforce certain behaviors that are not always in the general public interests.

    Also appears US gov is involved, specifically the security and exchange commission (SEC). So what's really going on here is not clear to me at all.

    as an employee that has worked in Japan, & putting on my legal hat, it is common knowledge that Japan's Criminal / prosecution system is (shall we say) 'different' - in that (for instance) if you are accused of something as simple as Petty shoplifting, you can be held for over 3 weeks while the prosecution team (seriously) interrogates you in an effort to pry a confession out of you. So that's one facet. Another facet is he has (Carlos) been movement confined for many months. Still another, there are no extradition treaties between Japan & Lebanon.

    My favorite facit - Carlos, whatever he did, was small potatoes compared to many other corporate execs in Japan.

    Then (from that same article) one ought to consider how Carlos was a driving force bringing Nissan back from the brink of bankruptcy some two decades ago, making him somewhat of a Japanese folk hero. Japanese prosecutors worked on him for many months & the only statement that got out was how much love Carlos had for Nissan. Even with public sentiment he chooses to flee. Having a personal disgust with Gen 1 Leaf's many fails (advertise range of 100 miles even though it would get 70 brand new, poor paint quality, poor carpet quality, poor upholstery quality, range that quickly degraded to ½ its original 70's when operated in hot temperatures, Etc) - one enjoys seeing and executive get their comeuppance .... but still - it ought to be based in reality. The fact pattern over Carlos ghosn corruption is bogus at best. It will be intriguing to hear his first public interview now that he's made it out.
    His last efforts were how much he wanted to join Renault & Nissan together, tho the rest of Nissan corporate leadership were opposed. From the above article, it was the board that was seriously pushing prosecutors to move against Carlos. A side note ..... most car companies are doing okay, but Renault - not so much.

    This seems like the only marketing Nissan has been doing lately... Wonder why? They've got a lot to offer but among car makers these days you rarely see any mention of them other than this...

    Japanese legal system has something like a 94% conviction rate. I don't think I can blame him for wanting to skip town, even if he is innocent.

    I have to imagine that this means retirement for him. I don't see how anyone is going to trust him beyond stating his dinner preferences.

    Don't forget Ghosen's immediate replacement had to step down over financial misdeeds.
    And the board may have hoisted themselves on their petard with that action.

    After Ghosen was ousted, FCA approached Renault about a merger. The proposal would have left Nissan with an even smaller voice in the new company. FCA wouldn't have made the offer if Ghosen was still in place. Luckily for Nisaan, the French government was against the merger.

    I don't know how Nissan fared with the Citroen merger.
