Requirements seem to vary from one area to another. I signed up with my 2010 Prius. No inspection was required here, but I had to pay for and take an online defensive driving course. I don't think there is an option to work with a rental place here.

-Model/color - Prime XLE blue magnetism
    -Msrp - $31,243
    -Incentives - Toyota Rebate $1,500
-Selling price before TTL - $29,500
-Out the door price - $31,334.33 (before tax credits)
-Dealer location - South Coast Toyota, Costa Mesa, CA (with Dianne Whitmire)

The 2020 replaces my Salsa Red 2004 Prius, no negotiation needed, no hard sell, and no upsell pressure. I originally started with a Costco referral to a different dealer, but although he was accommodating and responded to my texts, he didn't seem to really want to find me a car (I'd told him I was ready to buy on Wednesday, and he looked online and found 2 available in the state, and said he could trade with the other dealer to get me the car, but when I called back next Tuesday, he hadn't even made a call yet. When he called, they declined to trade.) At that point, I was looking at the non-plug in Prius XLE. Second choice was the Prime. He couldn't get either.

I searched here, and found Dianne Whitmire. She had the Prime in my choice of color, and made it super easy. I called her Monday, thought about everything she told me, and called her back on Tuesday to finalize the deal. If not for Christmas and everything closing early on Christmas Eve, I could have had the car Tuesday (she offered to Uber me to the dealership Tuesday or meet me on Christmas day, but I opted to wait until Thursday so my sister could come with me). Dianne sent me the links to all the rebates/credits, and gave me really good advice on the carpool lane access (wait one week to apply, and get an extra year of access!!)

All in all, a really good car buying experience. I might have been able to negotiate something more, but I don't know what to ask for, and I'm happy with the deal I got. Now all I have to do is tint the windows and get a second charging cable for when I am away not home.

When I purchased last month, many dealers offered around $2000 discount from MSRP. Get a quote from Longo Toyota in El Monte, and while I didn't buy from there (since it was so far from where I am at) that was just about the best quote I got.

I bought my previous Prius from Dianne when she was at Carson Toyota. At that time she had the lowest prices around, after she moved to Costa Mesa her quotes weren't the best.

I also bought a Blue Magnetism XLE last month but in San Diego. It's a two edge sword color as dealers don't carry many of them because it's an unpopular color and don't move fast, but due to scarcity it could get snapped up. Thus you might get a good deal or bad deal depending on availability.

It's good that you got the Prime and not the regular Prius, since after the $1000 state rebate and $4502 federal tax credit, the regular one makes no sense to buy. I think you should have gotten at least $2000 off MSRP but you got pretty close but as experienced by myself and others on the forum, her quotes are not the best. I recommend you go to a good tinting place as the curved rear glass seems to cause some problems with shrinking the film (place I went to screwed it up).

Oh interesting. Yeah I just ended up using my 2007 Prius but was concerned it wouldn't pass inspection cause of it's high mileage. For others wondering, at least in the Bay Area the physical inspection was free and it was just them checking for no hugely alarming things (huge scratch/dents/damage or grossly kept interiors, etc.) and that all your lights and horn were working.

I expect to go to Perfect Window Tint in Santa Ana. They did a great job on the tinting on the 2004 Prius, and they were highly recommended back in 2004 (although they were part of Wintech Window Tinting back then; they subsequently split between Building and Automotive tinting).

Had enough taxable income this year to claim two of the federal EV credits, so decided to get a 2020 Limited, trading in the 2018 Advanced I got in January 2019 . After lurking here a while back I had signed up for USA Triathlon before the cutoff. A few days before walking into dealer signed up w/ Uber for that rebate as well. Purchased from Ira Toyota in Tewksbury, MA (once again, their last Limited in their lot).

The other best offers I got was $2824 off (Acton Toyota). and $2534 (Toyota of Woburn) for comparable Limited models -- I did not end up stepping into either dealership, however.

2020 Toyota Prius Prime Limited (Classic Silver Metallic)
    MSRP: 34,879
    Dealer Discount: -$3,000
Toyota Incentives: -$4250 ($2k New England customer cash, $1k grad rebate (refinancing w/ credit union), $750 Uber, $500 USA Triathlon)
    Doc fee: +$495
    OTD price: $28,124‬

Trade in for 2018 model w/ ~11,500 miles was on the lower side ($23800), but since they had done a decent dealer discount I wasn't too concerned.

Took advantage of the fact that my Chase Freedom card had 5% through Chase Pay this quarter, which could be linked to Samsung Pay, and put $1500 down to earn $75 extra. :)

Hadn't noticed the 2020 doesn't have the remote climate, which I used occasionally, but the added middle seat in the back is definitely welcome.

TLDR: DEALER DISCOUNTS OF $3100 AVAILABLE AT A FEW DEALERS IN MA AND ME.THIS IS IN ADDITION TO TOYOTA CASH OF $2000 IN THE NEW ENGLAND REGION AND DOES NOT INCLUDE UBER, USA TRIATHLON, GRADUATE OR MILITARY DISCOUNTS.

Wanted to give an update on the price research done by me and a couple of my friends in the New England area on the 2020 Prius Prime LE model:

    Points to note:
    1. This research was done around 05-15 Dec, so the inventory might have changed, and dealers might be offering better discounts now, given the end of year push.
    2. We emailed about 50+ dealers in MA, NH, ME, RI, VT,CT area and here is the list of dealers with the best dealer discounts+ Toyota Cash on offer:
    3. Some of them might have run out of inventory in the last few days.
    4. Paper work fees vary from dealership to dealership (Usually low in RI, and can go up to $600 in some MA dealerships) . Keep these in mind while calculating your final price.
    5. I'm not including the other discount like UBER, USAT, Military or Recent Graduate, to keep the comparison simple. If you are eligible for any of these, that would be icing on the cake.

Here are the list of dealerships and the details of discounts and contact people:

    1. McGee Toyota- Dudley, MA - Inventory reference: 20081; MSRP: 28680; Toyota Disc: 2000; Dealer Disc: 2877; Final Price:23803.(Doc fee and taxes extra) Contact person: Micheal Norwood , Sales manager
2.Prime Toyota Saco - Saco, ME- Inventory reference: TS35357; MSRP: 28939; Toyota Disc: 2000; Dealer Disc: 3100; Final Price: 23839; (Doc fee and taxes extra) Contact person: Justin Griffin , Internet sales manager - a very friendly guy.
3.Prime toyota Rt 2 - Lancaster MA (Last checked all LEs are sold here, giving this info just for reference, and the salesman here- Richard Klink is a very good guy) Inventory reference: TL23630; MSRP: 28948; Toyota Disc: 2000; Dealer Disc: 3020; Final Price: 23848; (Doc fee and taxes extra) Contact person: Richard Klink - Very helpful, Informative, and upfront guy - No hard selling. Really liked his approach towards his customers.
    4. Toyota of Braintree - Braintree MA ;Inventory reference: T40765; MSRP: 28789; Toyota Disc: 2000; Dealer Disc: 2764; Final Price: 24025; (Doc fee and taxes extra) Contact person: Bob Hadges

I'm listing just the dealer names (and discounts) below for dealers that were not offering more than $2700 in dealer discount:
    1. Berlin city Toyota ME - $2400
    2. Gale Toyota CT - $1594 (Keep in mind the Toyota cash in CT is $3000 and not $2000, so that s effectively $2594 dealer discount when comparing with NE discounts)
    3. Greenfield MA- $2356
    4. Balise Toyota RI- $2350

Some of the Big names in the region like Boch Toyota, Wellesley Toyota, Bernardi Toyota, Herb Chambers,Westboro Toyota, and Prime Toyota of Boston were nowhere close to these and were not willing to match price too. Possible reasons: A. they can move these cars much faster, B. They are probably closer enough to their yearly targets and not desperate enough to give heavy discounts. Hope this helps someone out there in the New England region.

Happy holidays and a Happy new year everyone. Fee free to reach out to me through PM in case you want the specific price offered by a specific dealer. We've touched almost every dealer that had an inventory of the LE model.

Awesome deal @luiset83, given you've extracted every possible offer (grad, usat, uber). May be you could have extracted a bit more on the dealer discount.

For the trade in, you could have got a better price for the Advanced if you sold it on Carvana/Vroom. I got $21,500 from Carvana on a 2018 Plus with 11000 Miles. Apparently these used cars are in good demand in the states where Toyota doesn't sell them well.

Was the $1k grad discount from Toyota or elsewhere? Toyota is showing $500 on their website

The amount depends on the region of where the dealership. So the $1000 must be the far northeast region.

MA is a part of New England region for Toyota , so grad disc is $1000 here. For CT, its a part of greater NY region, so just $500 there for the grad part.

    This is really good research.
Do you have similar data about NY dealerships?

    Happy New Year!!!

Indeed you are correct, I checked after the fact out of curiosity with Carvana and they quoted $24,437. That angle is more interesting if a dealer is receptive to charge most of the car's purchase price on a credit card that has either 0% for purchases for 12+mths or 2% cashback. I will keep those sites in mind if I should decide to re-upgrade again before the Toyota federal EV rebates expire. ;)

That being said the convenience of having the vehicle delivered to the town hall to register and take the trade in back at that same point is a nice perk of doing the entire transaction at a dealer close to me in MA.

No Idea about NY dealerships, Our research was restricted to New England region.

Although it shouldn't take more than an hour on your computer to reach out to the nearest 20-30 Toyota dealerships. Just create a new email id for your car search (So your primary email doesn't get spammed) , and send a bunch of emails (with the same text in all) to the dealerships. They would be getting back with their quotes in no time.

I just bought a Black/Black 2020 XLE in Stamford, CT. Thank you to all those in this thread doing research on discounts and rebates (e.g. Uber). Unfortunately I was too late to sign up for the USAT rebate before the date cutoff.

I'm doing this from memory so it might not be perfect:

    MSRP: $30,714
    Dealer Discount: $2,214
    Selling Price: $28,500
    Doc Fee: $599
    Trade-In Credit: -$21,000
    Price for Sales Tax: $8,099
    Sales Tax: $514
    Registration Fees: $323
    Cash Rebate: -$3,000
    Uber Rebate: -$750
    College Grad Rebate: -$500
    Total Out the Door: $4,686
    Federal Tax Credit: -$4,502
Final Cost: $184 (plus minimal financing interest charges between now and paying it off early)

I bought a 2018 Prime Plus in February 2019 and traded that in for the $21,000. It only had about 4500 miles on it, but that seemed like a great deal as KBB only goes up to $20,800 in its range (for Very Good), and Carvana/Vroom offered $21,700/$22,000. When you take into account the sales tax savings on $21,000 it's actually a better deal to trade in than to sell privately.

I bought my previous Prime with the $5,000 rebate last year (plus $500 college grade, CT state $500 credit, $4,502 federal tax credit) so I think my effective out of pocket cost was about $19,000 (not including my trade-in at that time). I basically got a free upgrade to the 2020 XLE by doing this!
