The HG would fail first. OP needs to have the head inspected by a machine shop. There could be cracks that are not visible to the naked eye. iPhone ? Pro
Was that last head gasket picture he posted from the replacement engine, taken apart? It looked pristine. Maybe head gasket had failed, repair neglected, then finally replaced, and...
That was the head gasket from the engine i got used with 93,000 miles. The place i got it from are not responding to my emails. Hope it is just the head gasket. (The one I pulled out of the replacement engine was flat) Also got a new PCV Valve
The silver looking spots just above the cylinder on the left, and between the two center cylinders are definitely suspect.
Id try to contact those guys before you do something else. And see what they can do for you as far as warranty is concerned. If you touch that engine they might counter and void it. I don't know how much are those engines cost. Normally $1200 is quite a chunk of change for that size and they need to give you a good warranty at least. Ive installed so much engine that came from a reputable place, besides buying an extra accessory for intake, brackets.. etc. Ive never been gotten a major situation like that. That's quite a negligence on their side. if you ever proceed. You might wanna get that head magna-dyed to be safe, and atleast you wanna see how much more you need to surface too if its still good. Wow. Fel-pro gaskets went a long way!
Maybe they are not responding to your emails because of Christmas and New Year? Have you tried phoning them? If they are ignoring you, and you paid by credit card, you can call them and explain the situation and have them put a hold on the money transfer. That will get their attention.
This is the local yard to me that has a Gen 3 engine in stock. It has a “start-and-run” warranty. The one I’m referring to is the one with 243k on it.
I paid $1200 + $40core - for the engine with "93,000" Just found the receipt thing. Don't think they will honor the warranty. I didn't get the Radiator Flow tested (did it myself with a garden hose Ha!) Didn't put on a new timing chain or water pump. I did replace the Rear main, valve cover gasket, intake manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket. Also I dismantled the head from the block. (Duh) I bought the replacement engine because I didn't want to do a head gasket job on the car a bought with a bad gasket.
That's BS. Id still contact them and tell them the truth that youre trying to contact them. Right on my end I can see that you got the steps right. pretty sure they'll work with you. Try that first and there's another way around this if that doesn't work. New years eve bro. Happy New Year to You and Everyone "My resolution for new year towards my everyday prius work car. I'm gonna install a permanent temperature and oil pressure gauge." Where do you live in Oregon?
I will try and call them Thursday. I'll ask the guy to let me talk to his boss and see what he can do for me. (I will be super nice, like I always am) I am in the Rogue Valley Southern Oregon
Quite a ways from me for I live in Newberg. It would have been a perfect timing for I just started my vacation till next week. I feel for you man. Seems like you have a lot of projects in your house besides that car. You have a small shop in your house?
I have a 2011 prius three in perfect mint condition. A Scion xB beater car runs fantastically. and this 2012 prius two that I am working on. My lady has a Impala
The engine water jackets, they need to test that from their end not just you including compression test. In this way, the customer wont put time on installing it not know its fully tested. That is the seal of warranty.. You can get a radiator pressure tester easy. Sounds like theyre reasonable now. Hope you get that taken care of soon. I gotta get back in cooking for the new years bash How in the heck did you install that 18? Lol. Oh man I wanna see it. Must be a big amp. is your amp remote connected to the accessory or when you turn on your radio? I don't know if I should upgrade my sub for its only a 10" but its a dual voice coil. It pumps! But having said you have a bigger speaker, I was wondering if you custom made your box on the spare tire housing. Long ago I had a lift-back. My speaker was in the spare tire housing with a board. It was a free air setup with 2-JL audio 8" dual voice coil. That was the best setup I had. When your inside its not that loud. But when you're far, you can feel the vibration. I wanna do it on the prius. For now I just have a box,
Wow, I'm surprised they didn't expect you to rebuild the whole engine! According to their warranty, you made it void. They won't have to do anything for you. But they might, depends on their reputation and how decent they are. As you stated, "be nice". Hopefully they will do something for you. It is always risky getting something from a junk yard. And with an engine, you never really know what condition it is in. Looks like you'll be doing the head gasket after all.
That warranty language looks designed so they can deny anything they want. Not good. But it could very well be that they are reasonable, and use that language so they can defend themselves against abuse, but will honor the warranty in a fair situation where it applies.
