OEM Oil Filter Purchase advice

That's an amazingly good price if they are Made in Japan.
That price might be even cheaper than FRAM from PepBoys.

 

You are comparing a quality double filter with one of the worst ones? I gave up on FRAM years ago when I realized they did not completely filter air or oil.

 

I found the listing on ebay.

Can someone confirm if you can still get oem actual Made in Japan?

 

I bought a case (10) of OEM filter 04152-YZZA6, about 4 years ago for my previous Gen3 for ~$40 with shipping and tax from an online Toyota dealer. I still have 6 of them. My 2017 PRIME uses the same filter as Gen3. Yeah, $37.35 total for ten is very low price on the genuine Toyota filters, but it will take you 10 years to use them up. lol

 

I'l be shopping for the spin-on filter next time, the goodies for conversion are winging their way across the Pacific as we speak.

 

For what it is worth, I purchased a 10 pack about a month ago on amazon from a dealer

I am switching to the 6 month OCI due to our driving habits, so still got 5+ years worth.
Only got a 5 pack for my "c" and will do 6-9 month for same habits.

I suppose there may be a chance Gen5 also uses the same, if it still has an ICE

They switched to spin-on sometime in 2018 model year IIRC. 2019/2020 are spin-on. I suspect they'll stay that course in 5th gen??

You can do the oil filter bracket conversion either way, fwiw.

 

Since it fits the thread, any chance you know the part number for the filter after the conv.?

Yeah I believe this is the latest spin-on filter part number, for 2018 and newer Prius:

90915-YZZF2

There's a snow storm of older, superseded numbers. Plus a lot of confusion over what the filter style is.

The filter element kit, part number 04152-37010, has a list price in Japan of ¥840, but I don’t know where the ones sold in Japan are made, nor whether an order from a U.S. dealer would be converted automatically to the local substitute, part number 04152-YZZA6. An exporting company could sell you one, though.

 

The spin-on filter part number 90915-YZZF2 is also Made in Thailand just like the element type.
This place sells for $3.73/ea.

I'm thinking even OEM filter that was installed at the Toyota factory is also made in Thailand.
I'm planning to do my own (first) oil change on my 2020 Prime when it's due and see what it says on the oil filter.

 

This country of origin thing is meaningless?

In addition to the Denso or Toyota OEM filter that I'll order (depending on price since they're one and the same), I'll be using Kirkland/Warren Distribution 0W-20. On sale for $25 (regularly $30 including shipping).

I'll change at 7,500 intervals. I didn't like the level of discoloration at 10k miles for a car with only 20k on it.

I'm so glad I have an '18 made in Japan with a spin-on.

 

Do you not have ToyotaCare?

I'd use that up if, for anything, warranty inspection purposes.

That is about the same price as Toyota's recommended Mobil 1 from Walmart. Costco is good but for me the Walmart purchase is a safer bet and more convenient.
