It soon runs away with 100% CPU. Not sure what is happening.

Turned on AdBlock at most aggressive settings and problem resolved.

SPECULATION: Google is trying to kill the Chrome competition.

I always have as block, so I can’t comment. I tried it without after an upgrade killed the old one, and it was like molasses

That is a really wild.......and probably unjustified......speculation, since you don't know if there is a similar effect on other browsers too.

This is why I ABHOR pass-trough ads and refuse to use a site that complains about my ad blocker.

It is likely something IN one or more of the ads.......or just the sheer number of them.

My first debug was to try Firefox which had no problem. Then I enabled all AdBlocker features and the problem resolved. But I had a 'keyboard redirect' problem at Insideevs a month ago. IMHO, they are becoming too clever leading to more effective blockers.

As a general rule, I don't like to use ad blockers because web sites like PriusChat make a little income from those ads. But when ads become toxic, time for a new plan.

if it didn't slow the site down, i wouldn't use one either. but danny refuses to take my money, so i'm not chuffed about it

I looked into AdBlockers because of Priuschat, some years back: at the time it would not run without an AdBlocker. It's not so bad now, but I don't relish all the ads, using an AdBlocker on my desktop, but not on my phone.

Ironic that to use Safari browser, the ad makers have/can make it run like cr*p which leads to AdBlockers to make the browser usable. Sometimes called 'the problem of the commons', it is delicious except for the forum like PriusChat trying to make a living.

I've always toggled between Chrome, FF, and Safari and I haven't noticed any unusual behavior with Safari (iOS 13.3) lately.

    However....I live my life unfiltered.

interestingly, on my macbook, along with safari is a high;ly promoted free ad blocker app

    usually, government intervention is required

I had many websites load far too slow over my bandwidth-limited internet connection. And metered then too, so ads and scripts were consuming huge portions of my limited allowance.

My only PriusChat-specific issue was the ad-delivered malware that struck too many other readers -- back then, not recently. I didn't dare let those load onto my machine.

There is no good reason that it could not happen again tomorrow.......and probably will at some point.

I have no problem with a "few" ads.
But bloated and dangerous ads is a whole different matter.
