Gen 4 Prius air filter. Where to get Toyota OEM

Do you mean the cabin air filter?

 

I usually order mine either from Amazon or Olathe Toyota.

 

Walk up to the parts counter at dealership, tell 'em you need an air filter (engine or cabin). They'll ask you a few questions regarding your vehicle, or if it's in there already, maybe just your phone number.

Still: check the one that's in there first, verify it's in need of changing.

The cabin filter still in our 2010 was put in at the factory. Ditto for engine filter. That's with a mere 50K miles, but yeah, both still viable.

 

This is what I used in my 2018 Two - carbon filter, works great.

 

The Toyota part numbers I posted two years ago are still correct, but the list prices have increased slightly.

 

I get the TYC 800208C from Amazon. If you order enough from RockAuto it will be even cheaper than Amazon

 

I replaced both the cabin and engine air filters myself. It takes about one minute each.

I bought both at the dealer because there are just too many cheap imitations. Saving five bucks is not worth it. I paid approximately $45 for both.

I do recommend that you look up the price of the part on the Toyota site. Many dealers will try to sell it to you for more unless you show them the price on the Toyota parts site.

 

I order either a Fram or Wix equivalent filter from Rock Auto.Cheaper than a dealer.

The Warranty & Maintenance Guide (PDF) states that the first replacement is at 30,000 miles or 36 months; except under “Special Operating Conditions,” defined in the Guide, the filter wouldn’t have been inspected or replaced before then, unless the dealer checked it because they hoped to sell you a new one.

As you may know, the basic warranty (which expires at 36,000 miles or 36 months, whichever comes first) doesn’t cover air filters or other maintenance items at all, and ToyotaCare no-cost service—at least according to the current program brochure (PDF)—ends at 2 years or 25,000 miles.

 

Mpg may be slightly better with with a filter with some build-up? The air flow being a bit restricted, it's like you've reduced the engine displacement?

Both the cabin and engine filter, I figure the change interval should be when they're good-and-ready to be changed? At 85K and over 9 years, our (original) engine filter in particular, looks virtually new, until you look at it on a shallow angle: then you can see some dark deposit, but really minor.

 

I get these and these. I usually order like 4 of each at a time and slap em on the shelf
