My recently purchased 2007 Prius with 140,000 miles does not seem to be regenerating the hybrid battery by way of the brakes or letting off the accelerator. Also, when this occurs the accelerator sticks. The car goes from 0 to 40 in 40 seconds and this happens about fity percent of the time.. The car just had a new inverter and 12 volt battery replaced before I purchased. Also, the entire instrument cluster lights up. Did I buy a lemon?

    Thanks Bisco,
I'll check on this tomorrow. I'm going to take it in to the dealer and see if there are any recall updates. The other things I'm wondering if it is the electric motor or battery? The combustion engine seems to be running full time.

I assume by saying the entire instrument cluster lights up the car is throwing codes for failure. Something has failed in the car. It will tell you exactly what has failed you just need to get the codes read. The free auto parts code reading is a poor choice because lots of those stores use a generic code reader and will not be able to pull hybrid battery codes.

The instrument panel right above the car radio is called the MFD Multi function Display. Does it have a little car icon showing in the upper left corner we call that the turtle. if you have that combined with a red triangle on the speedometer cluster the hybrid battery had failed.

The most common reason for selling a G2 Prius is the hybrid battery has failed. The customer gets all the codes you probably have brings it to the dealer and the dealer condemns it on the spot says it needs a hybrid battery and that will be $5000 please.

Traded in on the spot for a new car. Off to auction the car goes.

Go to toyota.com/owners and join the owners forum. have your car insurance card ready as you will need the cars vin to join.
When joined you will see every visit the car has ever been seen at an authorized toyota service center. You may see the reason the car was sold.

In the meantime either take it to the dealer for the codes, they will charge you $125 to pull the codes or you can buy your own code reader.

use the search forum button up top and search

    techstream

techstream is the dealer software used to pull codes. Lots of chinese knockoff code readers. This is the softaware combined with an OBD device you must use to pull all the DTC codes the car is throwing.

That's what we all use to pull codes. Lots of different code reading devices available. I like VXDIAG on Amazon. Mini VCI is very popular.

You have alot of reading to do.....Good Luck.

engine running all the time, dashboard lightshow and needing 40 seconds to hit 40mph?

This car doesn't have a working hybrid battery. Sounds like the whole thing was pretty well worn out. I hope it came free with the dinner special.
