While I was replacing my right-side lower control arm, the CV axle shaft popped out and a lot of grease came out with it. A couple friends were helping me, and we managed to put the CV axle back in. I think I should add grease, but have no idea what I need to buy
A little secret about doing any suspension work (especially struts or control arms): unstake and remove the axle nut, then push in the axle. This way, you will not accidentally pull it apart. I would just buy an inner cv boot replacement kit from Toyota. It will include a new boot, clamp and grease. If the boot came apart you will need a new clamp anyway.
My friends who were helping me seem to think that I should replace the entire CV axle. They thought that the axle shouldn't have came out so easily. However, I looked up the 1A Auto video on the replacement, and it seems to me that by design, the axle comes out that easily on this car. What do you think?
They come out fairly easily. The aftermarket axles are very poor quality, all of them. I would rebuild the original axle if at all possible.
