Sometimes in the morning when I've disengaged the parking brake and put the car into drive, when I roll forward I'll hear a clang from the rear and feel a subtle popping. It can be kind of loud sometimes. Anyone know what this is? I don't think I've ever had this happen if I've parked on a hill and actually need the use the parking brake, but my parking spot is slightly inclined so I often engage it at home. And sometimes I'll disengage the parking brake and keep my foot on the regular brake while the car warms up which I think helps avoid it, but it doesn't work all the time.
rusted brake, happens to me all the time because my garage is usually damp same with my rotors and scraping noise for a few hundred feet
i would say it's not an issue. mine have always done it, and currently, on my 2012, after 7 1/2 years, the paring brake works fine. maybe someone else has a different or expert opinion, but i would ignore it.
This happens to my car when I put the parking brake on and jack up the car at any point. When I start engine and release the parking brakes, which ever tire was jacked up emits the same sound.
I believe it’s normal since the parking brake has been put in on so much tension to hold the vehicle in place, and when you disengage the parking brake, the cable snaps back into the normal position but at the same time, it’s not the same tension as it was when the parking brake was engage so it gives a little clunky sound when it’s being disengage because of the movement in the vehicle. Hopefully it’s not too confusing.
Kinda off-topic, but if I'm jacking up the front, I put wheel chocks fore and aft of each rear wheel, then release the parking brake. That way the rear wheels can "hinge" freely as the front goes up, but they're not going anywhere.
