Really? I thought the Merai used electric motors only, making it an EV ( actually a FCEV)
Toyota does not currently have a BEV but that is not what you stated.

 

hybrids are ev's. bev's are also. anything with battery motivation. hev, phev, bev, and sadly, fcev.

sadly, the prime sales numbers are depressing

 

The article is about EV shoppers, not people that actually bought one, and the Prius is helping to boost Toyota's rep for this.

 

I personally don’t buy that definition.

You can use “electrified” vehicle for any vehicle that has an electrical-propulsion element, but I perceive that an EV has to be solely propelled electrically. So, I’m my book, and EV is either BEV or FCEV.

Those other abbreviations — HEV, PHEV, etc. — are perfectly fine, but “EV” is not a superset classification in my book; EV is a more-specific term.

 

My PHEV is almost an EV. Out of 12,000 miles on my car, 11,000 miles have been EV. Still loving my prime.

 

Exactly. I would say that mine is mostly an EV. A little under 11,000 miles and about 10,000 miles as an EV. It has gotten me used to driving an electric vehicle. It and my previous Toyotas including a Celica, two Cressidas, an MR2, a Tacoma, a 4Runner and a Lexus have gotten me used to Toyota quality. So I am waiting for Toyota will produce an EV that I would want to buy.

 

thats why a bev is a bev, and not an ev. the definition is too broad. we're all free to think anything we want, but woitlout agreement on definitions, we have chaos.

that being said, most of us don't know the definitions, who is defining them, or why, myself included.

i suppose as time goes by, they will become more clear and universally accepted.

I've always seen HEV, PHEV, and EV.

BEV is odd. All of those vehicles have batteries for propulsion, it's unneeded.

 

BEV tells me it has only a battery and no ICE or fuel cell.

It is actually official.

 

Tesla makes benchmark EVs but I am not sure I want to be part of that crowd, the same as I know I would not want to be part of the 3 point star crowd.
Pity, as MB made wonderful indestructible vehicles before the accountants seized the reins and Yuppies embraced german cars.
