So when I am stopping I get a big metallic cluck. The clunk happens right as I am coming to a stop, I also get this upon accelerating. The accelerating happens right as I am going. I was able to get the car on a lift and put it in drive and then applied the brake, I can reproduce this cluck off the ground so I know suspension isn't part of it. I took the wheels off and looked in and the engine and trans move to the front of the car when this clunk happens. Almost like a motor mount or transmission mount broke. So I would like to start at the mounts, how many are there for the motor and the transmission? And where abouts are they? Also anyone else have any ideas what this could be? Thanks for your help in advance
How many miles? Have you drain and fill your trans fluid at all? Any recent or any brake service/inspections?
I did the trans fluid 20k ago and had the left front hub bearing and pads done last week. I excused the hub bearing because it fixed the grinding issue that was present before. Could the brake caliper be having problems on that side? or the bearing?
Has this noise got worse or just started happening? Tie rods and all those bushings in the front end? How many miles?
160k miles. The noise just started happening. It is bad enough that I haven't driven it in a few days. We are down to using my wife's Prius. At first glance all the Tie rod bushings look fine. I will test the CV axels tonight.
Solved. I have never encountered this type of behavior from cv axels. My passenger one failed where it connects to the trans. Thanks for the direction on getting me there. I was certain it was a failed mount.
I have the same noise, just replaced both axels and fluid 2 months ago because of clicking. now i have a click/clunk on take off and stop. everything is tight. how did you test your axels?
