So this is some old scammer mechanic trick?

 

If professional mechanics have the cowl off, take photos before if possible, and inspect everything before leaving. One time when the dealership did ours (for brake booster recall IIRC), they managed to put the wipers face down on rough concrete, then stack everything else on top of them, scraped the black paint. Not bad, I just touched it up, but yeah.

I did call them on it when I noticed, they apologized, the mechanic actually recounted how it had happened. They offered to repair, but by then I'd touch-up painted them, and it was minor.

Also, the knurled bolts that the wipers push onto: they start to look a little chewed up after the umpteenth removal/install.

Oh...regretfully true today.
But I still remember cars built in the 50's, 60's, 70's and into the 80's even. And oil filters were accessible, spark plugs ripe fruit and engines seemed designed to be worked on.
Pop the hood on an engine today and you are met a facade of plastic. Tolerances and clearances seemed designed to discourage maintenance. Everything screams....find another hobby because this isn't user friendly.
You have to go back a ways, but it wasn't always so.
It use to be youth, enjoyed working on their engines, it was a common thing to see.
Now? If they are parked in the driveway working on their vehicle, the best bet is they are installing a sound system, lowering the suspension, or bolting on some purely cosmetic aftermarket parts.
Non-familiarity with anything automotive that requires a tool is a huge reason more and more automakers don't even bother providing spare tires.
Maybe it balances out...cars are more reliable, require less maintenance, but the flip side is, we lose our familiarity.

 

I like working on the easy stuff!
But the Prius isn't THAT bad. But everyone is making things smaller and tighter....
SOMEONE has to suffer!
The wiper cowl was super easy. The egr cooler and system was super easy.
The intake manifold was super easy.... At least for me.
I am hoping to NOT have to do the head gasket on MY Prius. I'd like to help someone else,
just as long as it's not mine!

So far NO coolant loss. It's exactly where I filled it last year....

 

i thought this thread was about the expense of plug replacement

idk though, that is a very intermittent and unusual stutter

 

How many miles on the 2013 again?

If you have no dashboards lights illuminated, then we could assume that the misfire count is fairly low.

The shuddering and knocking could be entirely something else.

Are either of the mechanics hybrid compatible?

ah, okay. i must have misread your o/p

there are certainly a lot of things it could be. or it just might be plum worn out. tough to say without lights.
might be worth putting tech stream on it just to be sure.

is this the 120k plug change?

 

Have you tried cleaning the throttle body? Could be a sticky plate. Does the shake only happens when you step on the gas or also during idle when the ice is running?

What maintenance has been done to it?
