Not even with the button on the fob? I never played with that.

Oh, yeah. Fob button to unlock all should work, shouldn't it??? I am the same, I never had a reason to get out of a car in Park at READY mode and open the locked hatch.

That makes sense to me, and it sounds like it was not done on purpose, but it is a function of the SKS receivers not working when the car is in READY mode. What I found odd is that, as I stated earlier, if you put the car in P mode, it is supposed to unlock all doors, but it seems that this doesn't apply to the hatch door. In my case, I changed this option to unlock all doors when I unlock the driver door instead of when I put the car in P mode. Either way, I would expect this would unlock all doors plus the hatch, but it only unlocks all passenger doors and not the hatch.

Just checked on my car. The fob unlock button will not unlock any of doors including the hatch if the car is parked in Ready mode and you get out of the car to push the button. So, yes the only way to unlock all the doors including the hatch is to push the power unlock button on the driver side door.

Do you have 3-door touch to unlock?

Yes, PRIME Premium comes with 3doors SKS. If the car is OFF, with the fob in my pocket, I can unlock (all the doors) and open the hatch.

The latches and software is shared over multiple models. The hatch is likely treated as a trunk lid. An unlock on park or shutdown could result with trunks popping open with sedans.

Anybody check the behavior of another Toyota hatch or SUV?

Not sure what you guys are debating: I just stopped, put car in Park (all locks unlocked automatically) but still in Ready, put the fob in cupholder, got out and was able to open the hatch no problem. What am I missing?

OK, I checked my car again. You are correct that if I don't do anything and I just put the car in PARK, all the doors including hatch is unlocked. If I put my car in DRIVE, all the doors including hatch are locked. The only time I can not open the hatch is if I use the Power Lock button on the driver door after I put the car in PARK. If I do that, then all the doors are locked including the hatch. Then if I get out of the car, the hatch and other doors will not open with or without the fob on me or with fob unlock button. When I was checking the fob functionality before, I used the Power Lock button on the driver door to lock all doors including hatch. Humm, now I know why I never felt any inconvenience of not being able to open the hatch when the car is parked in READY mode. I have never used the Power Lock button on the door until today for the first time.

Now, this makes me wonder why @mveras1972 PRIME does not unlock the hatch when in Park.

Yeah everything you guys say is expected, except the part where @mveras1972 said that when they put it in Park and all the doors unlock, that the hatch doesn’t unlock - it should. It’s treated like a door.

Haven't delved into the Camry settings, but with the Sonic, I could set the unlocking behavior to just unlock the driver's door upon shifting into park or shut down.

That’s how it works for me. But remember that I had mentioned that I changed an option so that all doors unlock automatically when I open the driver door. The default setting is to unlock all doors when you put it in Park mode. In mine, they unlock when I unlock the driver door after putting the car in P mode. I don’t know if changing this changes the way the hatch unlocks.

I prefer the small screen and frankly Etune is worse than useless so you are not missing anything there.

I don't feel like I should have to go to a dealer to turn off the most useless beeping ever. I did download Carista and bought a programmer but I shouldn't have to do that either. The car is just TRYING to be annoying.

Oddly I have no issues with the Nav system. Works fine and I prefer it to Google Maps or my iPhone based Navigon software.

Here's another annoying thing about my Prius Prime. The album art when I play music from my iPhone. Sometimes it displays the actual album artwork and other times it displays some random picture with the wording "Alternative" or whatever. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to when it displays whichever one it displays. The same music will display differently on different trips.

You ever think, if you could just drop-kick that screen off the end of driveway, go back to just using the car to get from A to B, it'd be better all round?

The screen isn't the issue. The issue is the terrible User Interface. Car makers pretty much suck nice person when it comes to designing a user friendly interface for complex tasks. They don't HAVE to suck. I had a Nissan Leaf before the Prime and it's screen was phenomenally better designed. Toyota isn't the worst but that isn't saying much. As for kicking it off the end of the driveway, what would it be replaced with?

I don't think it's too much to ask that a 30k car be designed with the driver as the focus of the interactions. A 95 Toyota Corolla had a better UI than the Prime does. It didn't beep when you put it in reverse. It didn't require you to drill down menus to change the music. It didn't have overly complicated HVAC controls.

OK, done ranting for a bit.

About the hatch thing once again, I discovered that I can open it even if I leave the car turned on “Ready” mode. All I have to do is press the lock/unlock button in the hatch which is right next to the open button. This unlocks it first and then I can open it as usual. This is required only if the car is in Ready mode and even if you’re wearing the keyfob.

Resurrect this thread because it is fall again and I HATE THAT STUPID REAR WINDOW. Here's the view out this morning after driving 5 minutes in a mild drizzle. That's a government rig behind me, but which one? Cop car? Forest Service? BIA? Who the hell knows because YOU CAN'T SEE OUT OF THE WINDOW!

I'm at a stop light so no danger in taking a picture. While driving it is much worse.

You cropped off the rear corner view; I think what's call the C pillar. It's pretty much hopeless, but hey: hopefully the proximity sensors will start beeping, warn you off if you're merging into someone.

On the subject of the rear wiper, I think it's appropriate for a fairly expensive car to have it. If the driver doesn't need it, there is a choice not to use it. But without the wiper, there is no choice. Its true that the fastback-style rear window does get rid of rain droplets w/o a wiper, but there are other things that can stick to the rear window: snow, dust, leaves etc.

I do not like the shifter knob; it looks fragile and easy to shift accidentally. My preference would be a large rotary knob, sitting higher in the dash.

Touchscreens are convenient for setting things up, but when in motion I think they are less safe to use than physical controls with tactile feedback, minimizing the need to take your eyes off the road.

And again, knowing that the target audience for the Prime is tech-minded folks, the menus could be made more customizable. There could be a wifi link and/or a USB link to a laptop to make detailed tweaks.

I keep hearing terrible things about Etune, which I don't have in my 2014 cheaPrius. I wonder why not enable Android Auto and CarPlay and be done with it already.
