Roughly 57% of households in the US have 2 or more cars. The home ownership rate is around 64%. So 36% being both is a fair guess.
The average miles traveled in a day is 39.

You guys are just in to big a hurry. Any major change as it applies is generational. Even hybrid vehicles to this day are not accepted by everyone...and they don't even require infrastructure, technology, lifestyle changes...or the loss of current freedom EV incurs.

Sure but people just aren't building these anymore in the US, Europe, or China. So your example 25 kwh in half an hour, well that is fairly easy with a more modern charger. Of course japan went chademo with low wattage early and these will probably just stay there, but not very important. Since chargers are fairly cheap to make its pretty easy to supply more chargers, unfortunately as many simply charge at home, these chargers for long trips are not really economic (they will use them if you build them and subsidize them, but if you charge what it costs there are not great locations). Tesla finds it strategic so they build them to sell more cars. China, Europe and Japan the governments have been building out. The tech is fairly affordable for 150 miles in 15 minutes. That is good enough for most Americans, Germans, and Chinese, but building out takes time. As batteries improve chargers can be upgraded. No person or corp would have built the us highway system. I expect the US L3 charger network will be built by tesla, but in other countries the government will build them.

Well in North America other companies that want to sell bevs will buy into the tesla network or build out the combo plug one. I say combo plug because those also build chademo, but those companies that look they will pony up money have combo plug. In europe where combo plug is standardard, tesla superchargers have tesla plugs and CCS combo plugs. Sure some can't charge at home or at work, but this is changing. We are at what a little over 2% of new car sales being plug-ins in the US and Europe, just under 5% in China. Wait until 2030 where its maybe 15% world wide and then we can worry about appartment buildings and HOAs that don't let you add plugs.

And how would this stop you from getting a 250 mile range standard + model 3 (MSRP is $40,500 + tt&l). Do you drive over 100 miles a day. I drive less than 50 miles most days, and you guessed it, I don't plug it in every day. I plug it in when my safety factor for the next night is less than 75 miles. Power outages would make me add a bigger safety factor. But seriously I don't want you to buy a bev and definitely not a tesla. I mean then what would you have to complain about. ;-)

You are 100% correct. Clean air and reducing foreign oil issues aren't important enough to worry about, so ordinary citizens should just ignore all this EV stuff.

To restate: my take on various scenarios of BEV driving is not based on a thought experiment or recycling other people's opinions. The perceived outcomes of any past- or ongoing arguments, and/or proclamations about the pros and cons of BEV ownership are very unlikely to negate my very own personal experience that I gained by driving a real-life BEV in real-life conditions.

To distill this into one simple sentence: IMO, the only reasonably priced, "mature", marketable BEV in the US is the TM3. But the TM3 has two flaws, related to its body type - too low and no hatch. If the TMY had come out in 2018-2019 instead of the TM3, I would have one by now.

I think it's unreasonable and unfair to expect general public to buy a very expensive item a vehicle is if they don't like, and just because they theoretically could, in a hope that it might help the manufacturers to make this product better and cheaper. That role is filled by early adopters. The problem is that BEV's have been around for what, 8-9 years? (starting with the Leaf 1.0), and if they still haven't made it into the mainstream, you can't blame the buyers for his. Like someone else said on this forum, we are ready for BEVs' - BEV's aren't ready for us yet.

You're completely right on that. As ignorant as it sounds, I knew nothing about hybrids before I got my Prius 2 years ago. If you would of asked me what a hybrid car is before, I wouldn't be able to tell you anything and ask you what a hybrid car is. I actually thought the Prius was all electric at one point, then being told it gets 50 mpg. Which really didn't matter to me before then. Then I got my Prius due to my Scion XB becoming a money pit. Once I got my Prius, I became fascinated by the hybrid tech and EVs.

The general US public still thinks hybrid cars (non plug in) need to be plugged in and think the batteries don't last beyond 100,000 miles. I can't count how many arguments I've gotten into with friends, coworkers and complete strangers who think the Prius (especially mine) has to be plugged in and will need a battery replacement and try telling me I'll need to save thousands of dollars when it comes time to replace the battery. I can provide links, proven customer testimonies online by people, customer reports, kelly blue book and so on and they'll still try to say that they'd rather not deal with the idea of possibly replacing the battery.

Its still widely believe by the general public that the Prius is the only hybrid car on the road.

I work at a hospital and the majority of the staff that works here, the visitors, patients and the majority of traffic I see on the roads from my drive to and from work is 90% SUV. The average american consumer is brain washed into thinking SUVs are the be all end all and anything thats not an SUV is poor, cheap quality, low budget, not practical, and for whatever reason, think that gas prices will stay as low as they are. But in the same token, I still hear people complain about how much it costs to fill. The mindset of the average American is A$$ backwards. You drive a tank sized Yukon, pay nearly $90 to fill it, but somehow come up with the excuse that its the only type of vehicle that will suit your needs of lugging around 2-3 kids and grocery store runs?

& exactly what planet will they be driving these on?
No wonder Toyota has been quoted saying that no one wants electric cars. This would sure stop me in my tracks.
