    the OP's linked site tries to force me (others attempting to read it also?) to agree to some kind of marketing /ads/financial investing mumbo-jumbo just to read an article, about countries that are driving sales of hybrids. If that's the thrust of the article, I don't know, because i won't be driven through those kinds of requirements. That said, & ironically, China, the largest market for transportation is more interested in Bev's ....
    So the irony is, the article - if about regular hybrids would necessarily be focusing on transportation purchasers/regions that are not necessarily heading in the direction that the mainstream is heading towards.

    Once I got around all the garbage ads and popups I read a truly garbage article... The author didn't break down by region, they broke it down by nation, which is clearly not region. There's regions in China, regions in the US and the EU where electrification of vehicles is super strong and regions where it's weak. Of course if you're a suck writer who doesn't get paid much why do research on the details at all? I'll make sure to avoid Morningstar articles in the future. They're more into ads than substantive information.

    But that's what I'm hearing from manufacturers all the time are saying - many have models planned for the next few years, but for penetration to occur - I think even 2030 is optimistic.

    Trucks and SUVs - the bigger the most sold. Oh, did I say trucks - twin cabs - smaller than your big RAMs etc, but still crazy amounts sold.

    Edit: really can't blame manufactures for making things people buy in droves.

    People want them (for some strange reason) - and if, for instance TOYOTA decides to stop making them, MITSUBISHI will rub their hands together with glee - and absorb the rest of the demand.

    With SUVs - I know some people who have said they've bought them (though they bought mid-size ones) only because the rest of the traffic is so SUV & TwinCab truck focused, that a smaller car gets lost, has poor visibility etc - so more just move up (higher) and it becomes an ever worsening situation. The reality is that a good WAGON is a far better car for most purposes than either a TwinCab or SUV. There are also a lot more big trucks on the road - 34 wheelers everywhere - and there's the feeling in an SUV or small truck that you feel less vulnerable. If that freight could be moved back to RAIL where it works better, that would be great.

    are those rigs tanks, single, double or triple trailers, heavy load flatbeds? Is it one kind of truck with 36 wheels
    or are there multiple kinds of trucks like that?
    How are the drivers of those things, fairly sane? I've seen some crazy sheet on the roads here, but most Rigs are professionally driven, from what I've seen.

    8 axles of 4 wheels plus 2 steering - double trailers. Freight, tankers etc. Lots of single trailer rigs too.

    Sane - no way - I read that it takes them 400-500 feet to stop, the worst of the big SUVs takes 131 feet to stop - but the big rigs will often sit a metre or 2 behind you driving at the speed limit - on a wet road. And these days with more and more cars with AEB which will drop the anchor at the threat of a car cutting across - and false braking on occasions, it doesn't give you much confidence driving in front of them.

    Actually - they're skilled drivers generally - watch one do a reverse park!!! But the way they drive in heavy traffic doesn't take into account of most drivers not understanding how big and unmanoeuvrable they are, and how slow to stop or avoid a problem. They're involved in many serious or fatal accidents.

    When they were first introduced, for maybe 10 years they were excluded from city limits and even small towns, but they got the rules changed and they're on our major suburban through roads now.

    On very remote roads they have "road trains" with up to 3 or 4 trailers:

    That shell quad looks eerily like the infamous Detroit double bottoms from the 70's that had a reputation for laying down during turns.
    The double bottom trailers are all gasoline tankers as far as I'm aware and they were usually a double trailer with a dolly between.
    That 86 wheel behemoth ! The only place that thing should be allowed to go is deep into the outback
    and should be loaded from a refinery at least 100 miles from civilization.

    Driving that in wind rain fog or at night gotta be, just like you said, sane, no way.
    I talked with a triples driver in Wyoming US. Triples are legal in the western 1/3 or 1/4 of the US. The guy had some interesting stories about just how far the train could be backed up and what happened when it was done, no use doing a pull up and starting over and some winter stories in the western mountain passes.
    "Pulling a triple over donner pass in the snow, with a single screw, couldn't stop for chains, it was a wild ride".
