Windshield replacement

    Have a big crack in my 2018s windshield. I realize ADAS will need to get recalibrated. Has anybody gone through this? Wondering if I should have dealership do it or a windshield specialist. Regardless I'll make sure that the same place does both replacement and recalibration to avoid any run-arounds and finger pointing if anything goes wrong.

    my bodyshop had it done at the dealership. I think that the dealerships have the best chance of getting it right.

    I had my windshield replaced at an independent glass shop, and the lane departure alert ended up a little off, so I just turned if OFF. Don't miss it.

    I have replaced windshield on my PRIME which is very similar if not identical front windshield to regular Gen4 Prius. (Note, the rear glass is different.) Is this going to be an insurance claim? If so, many dealers do not directly work with insurance claim billings. You may have to pay out of your pocket and get it reimbursed. Also, many dealers do not do glass replacement. They subcontract those with glass shops. I have read that some glass shops can do calibration, and if you have a manual and place to do it, you can DIY calibration fairly easily.

    My replacement was covered 100% by insurance. I have no deductible. I took my car to a dealer, and let them subcontract with a glass shop. The glass shop did the replacement at the dealer's shop, and billed directly my insurance. Then dealer did the re-calibration and I had to pay for that out of my pocket which was reimbursed from the insurance company later. I have read that some people have been slummed with exorbitant fee from dealers for re-calibration, but my dealer charged me ~$100 for the work and I had no problem getting it reimbursed from my insurance company. All and all replacement and re-calibration was not bad at all. The biggest problem was that I had to wait two weeks for OEM windshield parts to be delivered from JAPAN. There was a nationwide shortage back then. I hope that has been solved by now. Good luck.
