Eco score - blue line disappears

Did you activate the cruise control? When the cruise control is on the blue line disappears as well.

 

I might be mixed up because I haven't paid specific attention to it, but it seems like my blue line disappears once I hit a steady speed.

 

Are you talking about the "ECO Accelerator Guidance" bar in HSI (arrow in the pic)?

 

I don't usually keep HSI on my MID, but this morning I have kept it and observed the following facts. The "ECO Accelerator Guidance" bar disappears when you come to a complete stop and reset the Eco Score. After starting the car it reappears. However, if you are not on an incline (uphill) or no longer accelerating, it seems to decrease. And if you are decelerating or come to a decline (downhill), the blue bar disappears as the car goes into regen. Somehow I feel that is not what you are describing in your situation, or is it???

 

I stand corrected. I paid attention yesterday and the only times the blue line went away were when I set the cruise control or under the conditions @Salamander_King just noted.

 

I'm not sure I'll be able to write this up so it makes sense to anyone other than me, but I've been noticing it in the Prime and other computerized controls and graphs and stats.
Many times programs will take averages and display them. We all get that part. But how the programs are written is more often than not, not the same or standardized. So how the averages are computed varies widely. The gauges in the prime do this too and most of the time it's so subtle it's unnoticeable. Other times like in your case (at least in my mind anyways) it's noticeable and very confusing.
And I'm not saying I know for a fact that that is whats happening, I'm throwing it out there to see if it makes sense to anyone else and possibly reduces some of the confusion with how the prime calculates all the sensor data it processes.

 

Does it only happen at 30 mph?
If there is no traffic to deal with have you tried the same at 25 mph and/or 35 mph etc?

 

I think I have observed similar behavior on my PRIME but can't say at what speed and if I was on a level road. I thought it was the way for the car to indicate I should "coast" rather than keeping the foot on the pedal as @Tideland Prius mentioned, but I don't know for sure. I lost interest in Eco Score after doing a small sampling and discovered that the higher eco score displayed at the end of each trip does not always correspond with a higher average mpg. I did this under HV only for if I did it under EV, the mpg would be 199.9 no matter what the Eco Score was. I have not tried correlating the Eco Score with EV range, but my feeling is it also has no strong positive correlation.
