Exactly! And where it is going and how fast. Places like Arizona can probably survive on mostly solar power (with storage, of course). Once the sunny states realize how to make big bucks from their resource of lots of sunshine, there will be no stopping them. We are already seeing huge gains in this respect. Also with solar comes de-centralization of the grid. If one has enough solar on their house to use and charge a car, then they are not subject to brown outs of corrupt and dying dinosaur power utilities (like PG&E in California). Sunny states (and that's a lot of USA and a lot of NASCAR fans homeland) are going to be all set with electric power, especially as battery storage (or other energy storage tech) matures.
but there's also NASCAR racers who want to win the race and they will be the ones who will lobby for and quickly advance hybrid technology in NASCAR if they can do it in away that will help them dominate in winning races.
For historical perspective, keep in mind that NASCAR is an organizational descendant of liquor bootleggers running whiskey past North Carolina law enforcement during prohibition days. They are the ultimate circumventionists. They exist to get around rules, apart from the ones that they make themselves. And often enough, those rules too.

For this reason, I plead with you… don’t work to mandate hybrid technology in all cars everywhere. You’ll see a dedicated group of well financed and talented engineers take up that challenge and find very creative ways to get around it. And the result will be glorified on pay TV for millions to emulate.

Geez, when I was a kid I was mixing my own developer and hypo. Not off-the-shelf Kodak mix, from scratch, lol.

I remember my daughter acquired a digital camera, stored images on a 3.5" floppy disk. Speaking of floppy disks: anyone remember the bigger ones? 5 1/4"?

Back to the (already off-topic) digital camera revolution: I've got a back-breaking bag full of Minolta digital SLR bodies and lens, and am I using pretty much exclusively: my long-in-the-tooth iPhone...

Back on topic, with our 9 year old Prius, we're currently putting maybe 8000 kms on the odo yearly, and that's trying. Maybe that's "doing your bit"?

My job will never be trying to convince the un-convince-able...

My job is to stand in solidarity with the millions of kids marching in the streets right now all over the world. We are determined to address climate issues and determined to not let anyone get in our way of making massive changes as fast as possible. Every Friday the numbers grow and the first global revolution that's going to swiftly bankrupt anyone who still is investing in fossil fools future is fast becoming reality:

Your pleading is irrelevant... I'm not in charge, you're not in charge, but millions of kids all over the world who will live on earth much longer than us are taking charge:

It's fairly normal to talk less/insult the team that is good at losing and talk more/praise the team that is going on a winning streak... Again, I am in no way intending to insult you personally, I'm insulting the greater mindset that doesn't stand a chance at ever prevailing again:

I am not asking you to justify the means. I am pointing out the fact that it is self-defeating.

Only thing that's self-defeating is those who think they're going to prevail in a discussion by opposing the logic of the threads title: "The Coming Electric Vehicle Transformation" with arguments that our movement is insulting. Put on your big boy pants and stop being so fragile.

When I was a kid in Soviet Union I mixed my B&W chemicals in my kitchen from powders also. B&W chemistry is so simple and forgiving! But all I had was a range focus camera. I could only dream and drool over an SLR until I came to US :) Until earlier this year I had no fewer than 5 film SLR bodies (mostly Nikon and one Pentax). I am now down to one 35mm Nikon FM body (all mechanical shutter clockwork, battery only operates the meter), some of my very favorite Nikkor lenses (that also work well on my now very dated Nikon D90 body) and a Nikon OneTouch P&S. I am also sitting on several rolls of B&W film and a batch of chemistry. No idea if and when any of it will get used. I also mostly use my phone for pictures. I have recently acquired an iPhone 7, the newest I ever had, and it's fairly good at day to day photos. My son has a 7+, which has two lenses and that thing does certain things every bit as well as an SLR with a real lens. It does it via computational photography (getting date from both lenses having different focal lengths). This tech will squash SLRs and bulky lenses with real focal lengths soon, I am sure.

Computational power is getting cheaper and better faster than you can make real lenses cheaper. This is pretty simple. Just as simple as it will be with electric cars. It is simply cheaper (in principle, not in today's particular situation) and more efficient to have electric locomotion than gas burning. That is all that needs to be kept in mind. It makes no difference what anyone feels like, it's a force of nature. Cheaper and better will win. NASCAR on board or not.

Excellent points!!! And as Elon Musk point out, in just one second you can make a thousand adjustments to the spin of an electric motor to improve traction and vehicle performance on a race track. In a ICE in one second you can only make a small number of adjustments and the latency/response time is off the charts compared to the speed of what electrons can do inside and electric motor. It's in part why Tesla has the highest safety rating of any automobile ever manufactured. Not to mention what comes out of an ICE exhaust pipe provides an early demise to people all over the world. In some courts of law, you could even argue it to be a form of intentionally inflicted mass murder. That's what a group of kids are doing in their decade-old lawsuit against the government for failing to address climate issues!

When it comes to looking silly, you're doing better than all the rest of us. You need no help from us in that regard.

You offer nothing substantive, so it's no skin off of me.

    Keep it up.

A lot of 1960s NASA data is no longer readable. The media has another century but the readers are broke and no one has asked me to fix them.
