Since I got comments on how I always get to fix the newer cars because they've been wrecked and the low mile hard to find gen 2 prius cars I figured I'd throw this one on here too. 2001 Prius 165k original miles. Body and interior is in excellent condition. It's been parked a long time. Long enough the gas was ruined and I had to drain it and flush the lines. The 12volt was completely dead and drained. And the HV battery well its old and needed a facelift. I have the car ready with a new 12volt and the intake carb and injectors cleaned. Fresh oil and filter. I also upgraded the HV battery to Gen 2 cells. I'll post more after I get the battery balanced out and in the car. By the way if you've never took apart a Gen 1 battery it's a pain cleaning up all leaking electrolyte goo that dries like silicone. So heres hoping the Gen 2 cells work out. After installing the reconditioned HV battery and a fresh 12 volt I have gotten rid of all the error codes but one. I have the PS light on with the lovely triangle. I ran techstream got back absolutely no dtc codes....... any ideas? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Correct but all is well now no dtc or issues the PS was on due to a faulty connection that I have now resolved the car is officially road ready Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Shanold, Not long after the Gen 1 came out, they recognized there was a problem with the modules leaking. Toyota put out a "sealing" kit that was applied to the batteries terminals. This "sealant" is what you're seeing on the terminals and busbars. And yes, it's horrible to try to work around. The later factory Gen 1 replacement batteries made in 2010+ don't have it, but still experience some similar leakage issues. I have the actual Toyota provided procedure for installing the kit somewhere on my computer, but not sure where I saved it. If I find it, I'll post it here so you can see it. Maybe it'll have some info on best way to remove it, just in case you see it again.
It was an experience cleaning that garbage off. I upgraded it to Gen 2 cells this time around and used diode grease on everything. This was my first Gen 1 hv battery experience. I did manage to clean and keep a few of the cells they wasn't the gen 1 cells someone had already put the Gen 1.5 cells in it. As far as removing it mixing CLR salt and vinegar still did the trick same as my other buss bars and turned it to soft pliable goo. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Lol this is a customers but I found one the exact same color and car same issue with 110000 miles I'm currently trying to purchase it Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
So after I rebuilt the battery for the 01 prius its been on the road a week and has now come back with a p3009 code that I have isolated to the HV battery. Voltages are all still great so now I have the task of pulling the battery and checking out what's going on. Any ideas? Gen 1 is a new game to me. But unfortunately I'm going to have to pull the HV battery and check for voltage leaks on the casing. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Check for modules leaking electrolyte. This is often the cause of a current leak to ground. (BTW, P3009 was changed to P0AA6 from the Gen 2 on. Fun fact.) The electrolyte can be hard to notice as it is clear, like water. Using even a standard DMM on the resistance setting can help find the current leak (and I guess the physical electrolyte leak too.)
Riddle me this after the car sat for 2 days I went to pull the codes after reconnecting the 12 V battery there is no code drove the car 6 miles still no codes Edit.... I drove it 48 miles now still nothing Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
