Well, maybe a wee bit aggravated. Driving down the road in my '94 Prius there is a rattle on the rear spoiler. I've tightened the four bolts hiding underneath the entire trim, yet the rattle sound is still there. It is coming from the drivers side and I can physically take the side of the spoiler and lift it up and down and replicate the noise. I am now turning to the folks on this forum who can pinpoint the cause of this problem.

Is it a missing rubber seal, a spacer of some sort which has fallen out, or some other thing which I'm not considering? Your help with a solution would be most appreciated.

    Thanks.

Are you Doc Brown, upgrading from a Delorean to an extremely early prototype Prius? :p

I had my wife's '07 spoiler off a while ago. There was a foam rubber gasket all the way around the outer edge which kept it from making direct contact and rattling. I have no idea what a '94 is like since there is no such thing yet and won't be for another 74 years. :D

    A ‘94 Prius?
    Is that from 2094.......or 1994?
Is this a hint that the 2094 Prius will incorporate Time Travel (c) (TM) Temporal Jump Technology?

But somehow, when it finally does come around, I'll bet that it will have the exact same foam rubber gasket as your 2007 and the common 2004. So OP should look for that for his special odd-year Prius, no matter if it is a 2094 or a 1994 model.

Easy fix, just reset the time machine inside your car back to 2004 or later and it'll work normal again.

Settle down, settle down. We all know it's just a simple typo - the "9" key is right next to the "0" key. Give the OP a break, and help fix the issue...

P.S. - I will be of no help since I never had a Gen II.

Well, well, well......It does take a little time to wipe the egg off my face....but, I do have a very large towel.

My express apologies for mucking up my post, yet I am very impressed with your responses. Seems that I must have misplaced a number due to a non-existent spell checker in my brain.

I guess there must be a rubber gasket that has eroded or blown loose in my travels. I'm wondering now if anybody has a schematic on the rear hatch. That way I can see if I can order one.

Plus, how does one get the spoiler off the hatch? I noticed the four bolts holding it on had an over-squish of locking gel/adhesive. Is it necessary for me to reapply that goop in order for the bolts not to unthread themselves?

Thanks again for the raucous replies. No offense has been taken on my part. Hope ya'll can find redemption in your hearts for my continued foul ups on PriusChat.

Remove the 4 mounting bolts. There is an additional plastic retainer on each side that will release when you give it a firm pull upward. They're similar to a snap button. I just swapped one on a 2005 about a week ago. Used rtv around the bolt holes since the oem weather seal gaskets will be shot. Mine still had the long strips along the outer edge in good shape, so they were good to go. I'm sure you could just use a bead of RTV on top of them and it would work fine. Just clean it well before hand.

I believe the four bolts covered in "over-squish of locking gel/adhesive" is like a child safety cap... Discourages kids who think it'd be cool if their wing could fly away. Not safe!

No need to apologize for bringing some much appreciated humor to the forum. Good ahead and bring a few more items later.

But I will mention that there is a 12 hour time window to edit and correct your posts. So re-read after posting. I frequently find misspellings in my own, and my style of revising while writing actually causes other grammar errors, so corrections are frequently needed. And for me, 12 hours is still too short, so some blunders survive permanently.

No need to apologize. As you can tell, there's a lot of good natured teasing here. ;)

Ditto! I wonder if there's a way to change that to 24 hours or so.

Well first thing...take a deep breath.
Given the headline, I was expecting something like a failed engine, hybrid battery or catastrophic breakdown. Getting capital letter "mad" about a rattle coming from your spoiler, is a waste of good emotional energy.

If replies here don't lead you to a solution, I'd see if a good bodyshop wouldn't be willing to take a look and give some advice. All they do is put together parts. A technician worth their salt, should be able to pretty quickly point out or know what is causing the rattle, especially if you can replicate it by simply moving the spoiler. Then hopefully they would have some advice about fixing it.

Assuming calmer heads don't prevail, and you just don't figure it out in a Zen moment yourself.
