Gen 5 info?

I hope Toyota makes a performance version of the Prius that runs 0-60 in the low 7's, maybe in the high 6's while maintaining at least combined 51MPG. I know this is possible if they use their Camry hybrid setup.

 

The 2.0 based driveline will make for a faster car.
They already put it in the Corolla and C-HR so it wouldn't be a problem to put it in a Prius.

 

Prius always had the new (or updated) engine, with leading thermal efficiency. The 2.0 could be a baseline, but how would they improve it over 41% efficiency? It's already more expensive because of D4-S.

Maybe they are hitting a wall with efficiency (in this cost segment) and so this is why they are trying new things with solar cells. Again I would love to see this standard on every Prius (roof+hood), even if adds only like 4 miles on a average day, this would still mean a healthy 10% boost in efficiency, without a plug.

 

I started because of the fuel bladder. I think it acted like a spring, pushing a little more fuel out when the tank was full. So my experience likely won't apply.

Hey guys, go on a diet and reduce your weight to get that better MPG!!!!

 

What about adding a couple of ultra capacitors? They can withstand a lot higher charging and discharge current.
You can get better regenerative braking and quicker acceleration without putting a lot of stress on the battery.

 

They could put solar on rear window also and with the cameras today could also make the inside rear window a tv screen if necessary.
Not to mention some people never turn their head anymore.

I suppose that design would have worked well on the "C' or "V" version
Perhaps any of their suv or sienna too.

In reverse, I rarely use the rear cam, only when checking how close if im inching up against something.

 

The rear cam that Toyota uses is also the worst out there. No dynamic lines, extremely low resolution and poor night visibility.

 

Low resolution and poor night visibility couldn't be any more vague... and untrue. What in the world are you comparing to?

 

I am comparing my new Corolla hybrid to our 2016 Ford C-Max. The C-Max has a sharper and clearer image and in the dark it handles contrast a lot better.
I have seen many complaints about the reversing camera that Toyota uses nowadays. The one in the Gen 4 and Corolla seems worse than the one in the Gen 3.

 

That continued generalization is problematic. The screen/camera in both generations of my Prius plug--in have standouts in quality, not at all inclusive to your broad claim.

 

Either that or Ford has something special?

When compared to other cars in the same class (Kia Ceed, Ford Focus, VW Golf, Skoda Octavia, Peugeot 308) the image quality just isn't as good as those cars have to offer. I drove all those cars before deciding to order the Corolla.
It might be how the image processing is done, to my knowledge almost all backup cameras are simple NTSC cameras so a 480i resolution which should be adequate on the screensizes on most cars.

 

I have absolutely no complaints about the backup camera display on my Rav4 (2019). I am a lousy backer-up'er. With the assists, I can do well, see well.

 

Maybe we are a bit spoiled in Europe with the European cars in this regard.

For the rest, I absolutely love the Corolla (built in the UK for the European market) Fit and finish is great, ergonomics are good as well and after driving it only for 1600km until now (will increase quickly with about 1000km each week) it is already getting better mileage compared to the last three diesel cars I had as a company car (Renault Mégane 1.5 dci, Peugeot 308 1.6HDi and a Ford Focus 1.6 tdci). In terms of handling the Focus was best but the Corolla is more comfortable and invites a more relaxed driving style which is a plus for me.

 

Or perhaps you are complaining about a camera you don't own. You keep saying the Prius has a lousy camera, look at my Corolla. I think you mean the Corolla has a lousy camera, and are confused.

 

That could be, most manufacturers use the same cameras across the range but they might have used something different on the Corolla and C-HR. In the showroom I couldn't see any difference between the Corolla and Prius in this respect but in real life it could be different.

On a lot of areas you can directly compare the Prius with the Corolla. The price is almost identical here and the Corolla Sports Touring is the same size (10cm longer then the Prius), exactly the same wheelbase and they are built on the same platform (TNGA).

 

Maybe you need to check your settings - dynamic lines are great!!! And it's much better than most I test drove (in 2016), though, not as good at night as some. Worst at night are some Euro cars with only one reversing light.

Resolution on video isn't real good - it's an ancient SmartPhone.
