Recommendation on Best 12V battery replacement

I believe so, I've got the car with 44k miles in 2016 and haven't change it since.

 

You can check for yourself with something like Solar BA9 (around $45 US). 6 years is a good run though.

 

THIS is a potential problem with automatic "idiot proof" battery testers.
In many newer vehicles, hybrids in particular, the VOLTAGE is more important than being able to deliver big amperage currents.
If the tester has other test "modes", those tests need to be done too.......and several times in a row too.,

 

I'm not sure that voltage is more important, than the CCA measure. A battery in a certain state of viability can have widely varying voltage. One extreme being after a door's been left ajar overnight. The other when it's freshly charged, sporting a "surface charge". But it's viability is roughly the same.

Testing it's CCA tests it's "legs"? Does that make any sense?

Too, I think it's conflation, to say that CCA doesn't matter, because a Prius doesn't use the battery for cranking.

I use a Solar BA5 tester. You enter the rated CCA for the battery, and the battery type (conventional, AGM, spiral coil AGM, etc), and it gives a verdict, either "OK", "OK but in need of recharge", or "Fail". It also gives a tested CCA reading every time, and that doesn't vary if you enter a higher/lower rated CCA value.

 

I did not say that CCA doesn't matter (at all).
I said that voltage is more important, under a moderate load.

Although not really common, an old battery can show very low voltage under light to moderate load but respond to a HEAVY load by putting out a decent spike of current which can fool some tests.

The only tester I trust is one with two meters; one showing the voltage and another showing the test current.
That way, you can SEE the voltage before, during and after the test.

 

Group 51, or 51R? One has terminal locations switched. Otherwise, should work ok with the terminal adapters.

 

IF you are ok with a smaller battery a Mazda Miata AGM battery fits well it however has standard size posts. The OPTiMA battery was easier to hook up.

 

Has anyone use the Miata battery?
