I have a forward dashcam, but I'm looking to replace it with a newer model that also has a rear camera. My question isn't about hardwiring, but about routing the cable from the rear (mounted inside the window). I'm concerned about two things: interfering with the side curtain airbags, and perhaps any potential problems getting the trim back in place. My current dashcam's power cable simply hangs down to the 12v plug in the dash, and that's fine for me (every now and again I debate running it around the inside the trim, but it doesn't seem important) but the cable from the rear to the front camera is a different matter. I have a 2012 Prius 4. Any advice?
Run cable behind the air bags when you undo the trim so bags are in front of the cables to deploy. But pull the power from 12v so bags dont go off as your moving airbag trims.
Usually when you run cables to the back of a car you do it under the carpets and side panels... There's very little room to do that in the headliner...
I ran the cables along the top of the doors in the channels of the trim. You can pull the panel from the left of the windshield, and the sunvisor, and route the cables their, and out where the dome light is. The air bags are not in the way.
