I tried to be a good samaritan, tried to jump start another stranded car. I hooked up the jumper cables to the aux battery directly. I now know I should have use the post in the fuse box and a ground . However, several days later driving the car I parked in my driveway and the front driver side under hood started smoking then the car wouldn't show any instrument lighting (won't start) can't move or put in neutral. After searching the web, I see that the Inverter Water Pump has blown and the AM2 fuse has blown. I pulled the connector of the water pump and replaced the fuse but still nothing. Any suggestions.? I checked the 5amp fuse at the aux battery it looked fine.
If you must be a Good Samaritan, there was nothing wrong with connecting the jumper cables directly to the 12V battery; that is much better than using the dedicated jumpstart terminal. That terminal is for use when the Prius is receiving a jumpstart; not for giving a jumpstart. After the jumpstart, did the Prius work correctly? If it did, then this subsequent issue is unrelated to the jumpstart. Make sure the new AM2 fuse is intact (and not blown). Measure voltage across the 12V battery and report what it is. The inverter coolant pump is located behind the driver's side headlight assembly. (Just want to make sure you disconnected the right pump.)
