Hi All My car insurance renewal has come through since our cat got stolen in April. The claim is being classed as a fault accident which I'm not happy about. I challenged it and the response I got was "It was not a full theft of the car and it was a part theft and thus it's classed as a fault accident claim" I further challenged that argument and said it should be classed as malicious damage to which the call centre lady said it was nothing she could do. What experience has others had from their insurance? Thanks
My wife's Prius Plus 2013 just had the CAT stolen too outside Copthall Leisure Centre in Mill Hill. Broad daylight around 4pm. This is outrageous. I wasn't even aware it was a thing until the RAC guy turned up. He already had suspicion before he looked under the car. He said he'd been to 5 Aurius Hybrids over the last few months. Does anyone know of any garages around North West London (Mill Hill/Hendon area) who can replace cheaper than Toyota themselves? I'm thinking to avoid insurance claim. Thanks for any advice.
Yes. Premium still goes up based on the claim category, hence important that it is acknowledged correctly
Sorry to hear this. Whichever route you go to replace it, consider getting a catlock fitted to prevent it being stolen again. I went down insurance route which cost £1500 They fitted a genuine Toyota part. And Toyota fitted the catlock made for our model. So far so good. Good luck
So sorry, I am. I’m really appalled that these vermin are now migrating to 3rd Gen Prii and Aurii. Decadent and despicable behaviour. And the Police are still completely powerless to put a stop to this growing epidemic. Prius owners are literally under siege in the UK. The Police bosses are not helping by cherry picking which crimes to ignore and which useless ones to spend millions on (I.e. which UK celebrity put their hand on a woman’s knee back in 1970! I do not condone sexual abuse or exploitation any more than I support a particular car brand and their owners being targeted and burglarised repeatedly with criminal malice aforethought. This has to stop before someone gets badly hurt. Contact Ryestreet Group (Google them). They repaired my 2nd Gen Prius (albeit under Insurance) but fitted an aftermarket Klarius catalytic converter which works perfectly and doubtlessly has contributed to my not becoming a repeat cat theft victim (though my custom built cat protection cage has a lot to do with that too!). Hopefully, Ryestreet will be able to assist you, they do have a Garage in NW London - check online. Good luck! iPhone 6s +
Most likely main dealer job as gen 3 cat are not yet being made by third party it maybe a while too get the the part. I checked with euro car parts and independent dealer few months back hopefully things may have changed now. There is a garage in Colindale opposite Sainsbury that’s not too far who dealt with gen 2 maybe worth calling them i think they called cats2u or similar but I doubt gen 3 cat is available yet
Rise in catalytic converters thefts from cars in Watford | Watford Observer Yes auris is also a target now
I guess the only way (to Green Motoring) around these catalytic converter thefts is to buy an EV. Except 3 - 5 years from now, high tech thieves will be jacking EVs and stealing the Lithium batteries, because the price has shot through the roof, AND Lithium is by then being utilised in the narcotics drugs trade. You can’t win. Perhaps I’d better take a Big Falcon Rocket flight to Mars (SpaceX, Elon Musk).....and live out my days on the red planet, far from the increasingly weird human race. iPhone 6s +
BBC reporting the huge rise in catalytic converter thefts: Huge rise in catalytic converter thefts - BBC News Also read a report that one lexus dealer has 500 on order... and not expected to arrive for over 2 months! Not good
I paid a very skilled engineer a lot of money to custom build me one. He’d built one for his girlfriend’s Prius II after her catalytic converter had been stolen, and I happened to see the work he’d done. I begged him to build one for me (he named his price - I unreservedly accepted). Hint: it cost way more that the Toyota Catloc, BUT....it’s certainly putting thieves OFF trying to steal my cat again. No, he doesn’t do this for a living......it was a favour that cost him a day off work. I believe he’s not building them for anyone else I’m afraid - it really was a one off gesture, for which I was extremely grateful. For me however, it was worth every penny! p.s. Toyota would do well to look at his handiwork and design something as robust as that. iPad ? Pro
There was a video on you tube about someone bolting a cage underneath a metal plate with holes across the whole area beneath the cat I think it’s mentioned in this long forum post
Auris Touring Sports Bastards! I've gone through Toyota Blog's comments again. Catalytic converter theft: how to protect your car - Toyota Tens of new posts. Since two months mainly Auris, more and more Lexus What I noticed that quite a few people stated that the cat was stolen just after they came back from dealerships (recall or service) like the next day. Judging how Toyota deals with this issue makes me think... Are they involved? Does data from dealerships (addresses) leaking to the gang?
