I bought a Canada import Prius v in Europe. Headlamps were replaced with European asymmetrical beam version but DRL lights using high beam are still working. I would like to disconnect DRL voltage from high beam lights or, even better, re-route the voltage to LED lights in the front bumper (this was replaced as well using Prius Plus version of front bumper with LED DRL lights). Please help! PS.: the car is wonderful!
In 2012 I implemented DRLs via the round lights down low and used a kit from a Toyota distributor in the US. It had a Toyota part number. I did not have the high beams DRLs before I did the kit. I no no longer have the documentation on that car but if you do a search you might find I posted the part number of the kit. Seth if you see this (he bought my car) the instructions were in the documentation folder and you could PDF them and sent it to this guy.
That could be helpful, thanks. My main concern right now is to disable high beam DRL function. Hopefully someone will chime in with this
2013. I already found the DRL/DIM relay/module where I can bend/disconnect pin number 2 which will disable DRLs. But I was thinking of doing this in a more reversible style by cutting the DRL out wire from the Body ECU. I think this ECU is located on the left hand side of the cabin, next to the parking brake pedal. I just need to figure out where DRL control wire is and I will actually use this output to feed DRL LEDs which I already have in my bumper (currently not connected yet).
I was going to suggest either doing what you have already done or trying the Prius+ version of the "DRL/DIM relay/module" to see if that disabled the high beam DRL. Instead of using the "DRL control wire" to feed the DRL LEDs, you could instead use appropriate automotive relays to send power to the DRL LEDs only when the engine is in run mode and the headlamps are off. Fuse #28 in the engine compartment of my U.S. specification 2012 Prius v is "hot" only when the engine is in run mode and it is probably the same in the Canadian version. When I installed a DRL-2P kit on our Prius v, I connected one of the DRL-2P kit's wires to the positive wire for the parking/city lights to suppress the DRL function when the headlights are on. You could do something similar with automotive relays - perhaps by using only one relay if you can find the type that outputs current only when one input is hot and a second input is not hot. A PDF in a thread I did about installing the DRL-2P kit shows fuse #28 and where I connected to the front parking/city light positive wire: WebElectric DRL-2P installation into 2012 Prius v | PriusChat If you haven't already and need to install a rear fog lamp and side turn signals for compliance, there are thread links in my signature about installing a compact E-code rear fog lamp I purchased on eBay Germany and about installing the side (exterior mirror) turn signals from the Toyota IQ.
Also, fuse #25 in the engine compartment is for the high beam DRL in the Canada specification Prius v. Pulling it may disable the high beam DRL without having to alter the DRL/DIM relay/module. Here is a link to the 2013 Prius v owners manual which applies to both U.S. and Canadian vehicles although it sometimes is not specific about what applies only to Canada and what applies only to the U.S. It contains information about fuses: https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om-s/OM47820U/pdf/OM47820U.pdf
Thanks for the tips! ECU DRL control wire does exactly that - it provides GND connection when the car is in "READY" mode and the headlights are off. That's why I thought it wouldn't be necessary to buy additional modules when the car actually provides that. I'll check those out, thanks!
The thread shifted towards general EU adaptation of a car, so I have another question related to that. The front lights were replaced to European version from Prius Plus. They have built in electric height adjustment requiring a switch like this: My question is - can I still retrofit the switch and the missing wires in order to do that?
You are going to have to replicate the manual headlamp leveling circuit of the European market Prius+. Wiring diagrams for European market Toyotas can be viewed with a subscription at https://www.toyota-tech.eu/Menu/Repair The Prius v sold in the U.S. and Canada does not have manual headlamp beam leveling. Only the top model Prius v Five has beam leveling and it is automatic.
Going back to the DRL topic, I found this in the wiring diagrams of the Body ECU: Would the above indicate that a pin number 15 from the Body ECU is providing the control signal for DRL?
This is EXACTLY what I want/need to do with my 2014 v (2) I want to put switchback bulbs in my turn signals and when I rotate the column control wand to DRL, it will power the white leds in the turns signals. The turn signal circuit will remain the same as in this video: Was the OP able to accomplish this? I read something about disabling a relay pin? Any help appreciated or should I start a new thread? Also I would like my DRLs to be powered anytime any light past the DRL column wand is on, even with the headlights on.
Hi Scott_K, I haven't done that yet, but I identified the pin that I need to cut or bend in the DRL/DIM relay switch. Before I disable high beam DRL I need to connect my LED DRL in the bumper. I haven't found time to do that yet. My bumper cover has been replaced with a EU version fitted with original EU DRLs (LED). The LED are not connected yet. Strangely whoever was fixing this car (it had some minor damage at the front) connected some wires to the bumper LED DRLs... the cables look like they are original wires which go, together with many other wires, to the fuse box. I can't trace the other end of the cable though, so I will retrofit new wiring to a DRL module which I already bought.
jackmilas would you be so kind as to share what relay location and specific pin to disable you are referring to? Maybe a pic would help me? Is it under the hood or in the passenger compartment? I believe I have a "non-Canadian or EU" version Prius v as my light switch stalk indeed has a DRL switch position, meaning, unlike the Canadian version, I can choose whether to switch the DRL half power high beam on or off as I see fit. On my column stalk the first rotation forward stop is DRL on, second stop is parking or marker lights and third is headlights. Push forward for high beam, rearward for flash to pass. I'll provide pics if needed. Thanks in advance.
Hi if you have some tools for reprogramming eeprom, I can help you. I did DRL off on my Prius V, if you still interested, please let me know.
