Reconditioning Experience with Hybrid Automotive's Prolong System

The benefit varies from battery to battery based on that batteries condition, so it's hard to say empirically that exactly three cycles is the number everyone should use. However when selling a product customers generally want to know how many times to use the product, so three was settled on as the balance between time required and benefit. More cycles do seem to help - but it's a diminishing return, you are consuming cycle counts on those cells, and most people don't want to put that much time into it. We have seen benefits cycling some packs up to five or six times, especially weaker packs tend to respond well to additional cycles. Having said all this, If you want to cycle your battery a couple more times, go for it.

 

I did not get a chance to recondition again over the 4th weekend. But, I appreciate getting "clearance from the tower." I'll post data next time I do.

What the best combination of cycling modules with individual chargers and then using the Prolong equipment?

ie
- Using chargers such as Turnigy Reaktors, I discharge & recharge each module three times, with the third discharge giving me the mAh capacity of each module. This all goes into a spreadsheet.
- Modules that are showing a low capacity get replaced with modules with a suitable matching age and capacity.
- So far I've then been using the Prolong charger and discharger to cycle the whole pack three times.

Considering that the modules have already been cycled three times individually, how should I be using the Prolong equipment?
- Just run the charger for a handful of hours (12?) to balance the modules?
- Run the three charge & discharge cycles (163V, 102V and 20V discharge for a Camry battery; 134V, 84V and 17V for a Prius battery)?
- Charge and then just run one or two of the discharges? If so, which one?

I used your recharger few times already, however this time it shows a low voltage as 212v after 12 hours (picture attached below). My car is Prius 2010. Is it a sign of problem? Thanks

I do not see any current reading should show like .335 amps. Roughly 1/3rd of an amp.

 

Mind describing conditions that predate the 212 volt reading?

Is there any backstory or pertinent information about the Prius?

Has it been showing 0.002 on the current the whole time?

 

Just a wild guess - remove the orange safety switch and put it back in. Make sure that you push the loop downward - it doesn't work if the loop isn't pushed back into place (you'll feel it click in).

 

Thank for all your responses. The recharger is broken. I contacted tech support who gave me a RMA to send it back for repairing.

 

Hello everyone! I sense my hybrid battery is starting to get tired. It just reached its 10th birthday and I want to recondition it with the prolong system. However, it is out of my price range right now and was wondering if these chargers are available to rent or something similar. Any input? Thanks in advance!

 

I know some people have pooled together to share the price of a system but each have their own harnesses. @Raytheeagle is one.

But it is a great system to share as you only use it periodically throughout the year .

It’s also nice to meet other owners and swap stories as part of ownership .

 

In order for anyone to know if they can help, they'll need a little more location precision from you than just "United States." If someone is close, they will probably help, but you'll want to at least get the harness from Prolong.

It is shipped to you.

You use it in a reasonable.

You send it back to me.

You get your money back less rental and shipping fee.

If you don't send it back in a reasonable time, then you bought it.

Or save yourself the hassle and just build one for $150 or less using an off the shelf power supply.

Or repurpose a power supply from something like an eletropherisis machine. Still around $150.

Yes. You need to purchase and Install a harness.
Deposit is full cost of item, which reverts to a purchase after 21 days.

Seriously, you'd be better off buying one yourself and just sharing it locally.
