    Hi all !

My key fob can't open/close the car when pressing the buttons on the fob, it won't open when touching the handle (nor the trunk) and I can't start the car other than putting the key in the slot.

I can close/open all the doors with the button of the drivers door.

My 12V battery is new and ok. Fob's battery are new (on both keys).

When I use Techstream, I have the code B2775 "Interior Verification Abnormal (To Theft Deterrent ECU)". I read it was an immobiliser problem...

Any one had this code once ?

    thanks !

When was the last time that the fobs worked properly?
Does this problem happen with both fobs?

Are you referring to the small square black button on the exterior driver's door handle?

This DTC means that there is no communications between the smart key ECU and the transponder key ECU. Maybe the wiring between the two ECUs is damaged or an ECU may have failed.

Last time both keys worked was 3 month ago. It happens with both fobs.
I can lock/unlock doors with the button inside the driver's door. The black button in the handle outside the driver's door won't work.

I was reading this but don't know how to proceed to "reregister the ECU communication ID code" (see attached file)

Maybe the wiring between the two ECUs is damaged or an ECU may have failed.
The only times it worked again (all Smart Key functions I mean) is when the car stays at full sun and inside the vehicule it's very hot ! Once the car is cooled (e.g : when I put the AC), if I stop the car and try to start again, the problem comes again !

Since the problem is intermittent you might try disconnecting the wiring harness connectors from both ECUs and spraying the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. Then reinstall the connectors and see if that helps.

If it does not help then there may be an intermittent connection inside one ECU or the other.

It is time for you to access the factory repair manual. Toyota Europe has this subscription website: https://www.toyota-tech.eu/

Basically you will need to remove the top instrument panel above the steering column for access to the Smart ECU. The transponder key ECU is where the fob slot is so that requires removing the bottom panel below the steering column. You will need to pull out two of the cabin air vents: far left next to the door, and the center left next to the MFD.

Fixed ! With... a hair dryer and some contact cleaner :ROFLMAO:.
Well, fixed is a big word...
The problem comes from the Smart Key ECU.
It worked 30mn then again failed. I cleaned again and heated more and now it's been working for 3 hours. Air is fresh outside.
I'll see tomorrow if it's still working.
I had lots of error codes and red triangle after mounting back everything but cleaned most of them with Techstream. The only code wich I can't clear is an AC linked code (B1421) but I don't care much.

Ignore B1421, that just means the solar sensor is in the dark.

A very good idea to use a hair dryer as a heat source to narrow down the problem.

thanks for your help, BTW You told me the transponder KEY ECU is where the fob slot is but referring to this image, it seems to be located behind the AC system. Locator - Dash (5).JPG

I’m glad you found that diagram. I am not sure where T5 is; it may be above the blower/condenser assembly.

yes, it's a very difficult place to access. Actually, I think to access this piece, you have to take out all the AC...

Today the smart key system is still working well !

Ok, the B1421 is gone ! But the problem is back with the Smart Key. Now, I'm looking for a part to buy it and swap it. Where can I find that ? In France it's almost impossible...

I suggest that you should identify the part number and make sure the replacement has the same number. The RF frequency used by the fobs may vary depending upon what country the Prius was originally shipped to. Hence there may be incompatibility issues if you swap Smart ECUs without concern about part numbers.

    Hi all !

The problem with the smart key is too much intermittent so I decided to replace this part.

So, here I am with a 2nd hand smart key ECU and part numbers are perfectly matching. I found one in Sweden for 60€, if anyone in Europe is searching for parts, this site is very good and serious : http://en.bildelsbasen.se/

Anyone knows if I just have to swap the smart key ECU or do I have to reset the 2nd ECU once it will be installed ? I've read that if you change the TRANSPONDER you have to match ID's with the hybrid vehicle control ECU but what about the smart key ECU ?

After you swap the Smart ECU, there is a long process that you need to follow, using Techstream, so that the ECU registers the Smart fobs that you want to use. I suggest you get that from the Toyota Europe techinfo website.

I have the big PDF manual and troubleshooting for the Prius 2, following the registration procedure (I think it's this one) it says that I have 4 modes : New registration mode, Add mode, Communication mode, Erasure mode.

Knowing that the replacement part is an already USED smart key ECU, wich mode do I have to follow ?

I think you will have to remove existing fobs and then add the fobs you own.
