    That pic might corroborate @Raytheeagle 's impact wrench idea.

    I wonder if the blue is old news, or fresh: they strip the bolt, then apply a bunch of goop?

    Oh, I thought it was melted blue nitrile glove... But medium-strength Loctite is blue.

    Could be;).

    I’d say they marked it saying it was done, but probably got distracted and then moved on:cool:.

    But at least the threads in the fill bolt hole look fine and not marred, indicating it wasn’t stripped at least :).

    Definitely save that pic for later(y).

    The threads I can see don’t look stripped;).

    It can be done to see if the bolt position has been moved or tampered with:whistle:?

    @Rebecca4846282 , has an oil consumption test ever been requested on your Prius?

    Good luck and keep us posted (y).

    PROBABLY FINAL UPDATE: we put oil in it. It’s fine. I’m guessing the hybrid battery saved it from seizing or causing any damage because a) it didn’t sound funny when I drove it and b) it switched to the hybrid battery when the light came on. Very happy I don’t have to buy a new car

    Just keep an eye on the oil dipstick for awhile to ensure it doesn’t vanish;).

    Glad it is sorted(y).

    @Rebecca4846282

    Please stay in touch with some follow ups. At this point, it's drastically important you frequently check the oil level on the dipstick. If the engine incurred any unusual wear due to the previous oil problem, it will be at the piston rings/cylinder wall where it will show up as oil consumption. Other wear would occur at the main and connecting rod bearings, but this usually results in loud ticking/clacking noises if significant. I'm actually very curious if the Prius has a self-protect mode if oil pressure isn't detected above a safe threshold. If your engine continues to burn no significant oil, then it seems like it might have that.

    The thread ratio is too fine for vibrations to spin it and that primarily happens with nuts, not bolts...

    Besides frequent oil checks, listen too for changes in the way the engine sounds.

    It happens all the time when the bolts aren’t tightened correctly. That’s why oil change places replace car engines, because they know their at fault.
