The Compact Crossover for a Refined Luxury Driver: The All-New 2019 Lexus UX

Rear leg room, viability and access are worse for the CH-R. That's quite a bit to give up for styling. They are built on the same platform but UX is 6 inches longer than the CH-R. Rear leg room should be a couple of inches better.

 

oof. that's a hard sell.

 

That is the best mileage for an AWD crossover.

 

And that is still likely an improvement over the car that was replaced.

It's effective in the snow with evenly low traction on all four tyres, but off-roading is no-go with this system. That said, I still believe there is high potential in rear el. motor setup, Toyota is just not there yet. I hope that UX even with the lower powered motors is somewhat more effective, we will have to wait and see.

Have anyone looked at or bought hybrid UX 250h with AWD yet? It is the first AWD crossover to go over 40mpg in the city drive. I am interested in test driving it, but there is no Lexus dealer near me. I hate the looks of the car, but I can live with that. What I want to know is the size of the cargo space and how the rear seats fold down. Are they flat to the deck behind it when folded? Spec says cargo volume is only 17.1 cf which is quite a bit smaller than none hybrid UX200 FWD's 21.7 cf. In fact, it is even smaller than my PRIME's 19.8 cf.

All that said, I am most likely to end up waiting for the arrival of all new 2019 RAV4 hybrid for our next car.

 

The local Lexus dealer has twice as many hybrid versions of the UX. I don't know why you would get a standard UX but for $2,000 more you get more power, better mileage and AWD. Up here 2WD SUVs just don't sell.

Odd no one mentions it has Apple CarPlay. I almost laughed when the salesman told me about this but then mentioned they have a luxury version of the UX and it comes standard with Nav.

I hate how Lexus takes 2 ft high shots of the car so they can emphasize their grill. You really don't even notice the grill on the Nori Green color the Lexus dealer has. It's a rather attention grabbing of a color and it has to be seen in person. Not sure If I'd get sick of it later though.

 

This looks an awful lot to me like a cross between the CT200h and the NX series. I'm a little surprised to see Lexus add another model like this to their lineup when they have the NX for those not interested in going all the way to an RX and they discontinued the CT in the US due to declining sales. Seems like one too many models in the family..

 

It is smaller than the NX. The Nx is based on the Rav4, the UX is based on the CH-R. Unfortunately space utilization is not good at all. Outside dimensions are similar to a Prius with much less rear leg space and hatch space.

 

Add my head brushing up against the roof and I think you've summarized my view of the CT200h. It is a car I really wanted to love but when I compared the storage capacity and internal space to what I was used to in my '07 Prius I was turned off. I went with the '13 Prius instead and never looked back.

What I can say about that little window is that it is capable of making a huge mess. I live in the Northeast US and came out of work one day to find that a giant icicle had fallen from the four story roof I had parked under and landed on the hatch. The primary rear window simply bowed under the weight (which was impressive) but the small window under the spoiler shattered. There was glass _everywhere_. For months afterwards I would be driving and a little piece of glass would just shoot out of the air vents...in the front of the car! What a mess...
