Corolla is a nice option, but drivetrain doesn't make it the same car as Prius. For one thing Prius offers more interiour space and more practical trunk (Hatchback). It also has a drawback, no TSS 2.0 and no latest infotainment.

 

My first Prius:

A sedan Prius that on the ride home achieved 52 MPG and never looked back.

I think in USA they get the COROLLA Sedan in Hybrid. Here we only get COROLLA Hatch Hybrid - and yes, the trunk/boot as well as back seat space is pathetic in Corolla.

 

The sedan and estate have a larger axle to axle distance compared to the hatchback which gives a larger interior space, especially for the back seat.

 

No, but given 40+ years of sales success including several “#1 global" records I think Toyota will cheerfully settle for more of the same… if they have to.

Personally I see the arrival of this model as a bigger deal than the Prius itself.

 

Yes - I certainly hope we get the WAGON Hybrid here - whenever there is an article about the Corolla - comments plead with TOYOTA for the WAGON. It was a good seller when they used to bring them here.

 

$1000 less than a Prius, gets Prius mileage, and doesn't look like a Prius.

Up Next: 2025 Corolla PHEV

 

I don't think I will be needing to replace my car for a while. When it's time, I hope Corolla wagon PHEV is on market, and I hope there still left incentives for such vehicles then. Corolla Hybrid MSRP $23,880 maybe attractive price in some places, but after purchasing Prius PRIME Premium (XLE in 2020) MSRP $30K for less than $20K, it is difficult to see it as a bargain.

 

I suspect that they will bring out a PHEV since one of the big competitors in Europe, the Kia Ceed will get a PHEV very soon.

 

All good, different cars for different tastes in the end it's about more hybrid sales. PHEV version can take some time, rumors are that RAV4 will get a plug next.

For me, I'm staying with Prius. I test drove the Corolla and didn't like the gearshift lever, dark Interieur, "new" smell, rear visibility (TS version).

 

Yes, rear visibility is often an issue with sedans. After 2 hatches, I went to a sedan again - a small Diesel FIESTA - but immediately noticed the lesser rear visibility. I soon put a reversing camera to help. The upside was that the boot was huge, and the economy nearly as good as my PRIUS (4.6 litres/100km measured).

Yes... in the US, here where I live Corolla hybrid is €21,500 and Prius starts at €25,400. But luckily a used market adjusts those prices more in line with demmand, so I'm geting fully loaded 1 year old Prius for €22.000.

 

How much of that price difference is because of import taxes?
Is there a notable difference in price between the sedan, hatchback, and wagon Corollas?

 

As far as i know it's 10%, but it was said that Japan will have certain benefits. All Corolla versions are made in EU, sedan is made in Turkey and comes with NiMh, hatch and estate are made in England 1.8 is LiIon and 2.0 is NiMh. Equipment is not the same, Prius comes standard with certain thing more.

 

Exactly...I've always thought 'stealth hybrids' are the endgame. And that appears to be coming true!

 

While I won't say this passes the "ugly bar" (subjective) yet, it's still a Toyota hybrid that presumably more will accept. The Corolla is their bread-and-butter.

 

Counting down the days till the only non-HEVs/PHEVs/BEVs will be owned by car enthusiasts and coal rollers.
